A bit of a random question here, but how do you enable Word to have different content in each footer?
For example, I want to keep the page number in the footer, but I want to be able to add notes to footers.

you need to insert a page break, then you should be able to insert different content into the footer section, yet keep the page numbering going.
    good luck

You can just double-click the footer area and edit text.
