Microsoft's made a decision to issue one more security patch for Windows XP last week, but the software giant stresses this was a one time thing. Microsoft stressed this week that there will be no fu... Microsoft states there will be no more patches for Windows XP
The thing is, technically it wasn't an XP patch last week, it was an IE patch which they had to make anyway.
""""The thing is, technically it wasn't an XP patch last week, it was an IE patch which they had to make anyway."""" where MS has monitored each and every XP users' activities from their browsers......since 2001*...
Last Update Tuesday on my XP box I only got Office patches (cause office 2007 and up is still supported on XP) and Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool – May 2014 (KB890830). Microsoft Security Essentials still seems to work, but it keeps bitching that XP is End of Life. When I get the time I'll probably just turn the old rig into a Linux box.
Also the reasoning behind creating that patch for XP and IE8 users is because still a lot of businesses still use XP even though the market share is 2nd to Windows 7 it is still a lot nonetheless.
Right, but those ATMs are using really locked down versions of XP. If someone is going to mess with an ATM they'd just as soon install a card skimmer.
There probably aren't any other companies in the world that would continue to support XP if they were in Microsoft's position. Microsoft have been more than generous with the amount of time they've given, realistically support should have ended a couple of years ago. Most companies wouldn't really support it probably after when Windows 7 SP1 was released, or Windows 8 at the most.
There are not coming any more patches for XP, end of life means end of life for a reason. Besides that, a lot of other software companies abandoned XP long time before Microsoft.
QFT ^^ I'm so sick and tired of hearing people bitch about the fact that MS are ditching support for this relic. Great OS but it's time to move on now (or stick with XP if you prefer and don't mind the lack of support). As you very correctly said, MS have been more than generous with their support for this 12+ year old OS.
Personally Microsoft should only put patches out for Windows 8/8.1. Every OS below Windows 8 should be dropped without exception. If people what the latest patches they NEED to update to the latest OS it is really as simple as that.
Um Windows 7 is not that Old of an OS compared to XP and if MS were to do that it would upset alot of business people and some gamers. So your statement is not a solution as much as it is a problem causer.
They Run Windows Embedded for Point of Sale, based on XP, but it has extended support till April 2016 or April 2019 depending on the versio according to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Embedded_POSReady http://redmondmag.com/articles/2014/02/19/windows-xp-embedded-support.aspx
