That's sounds quite something. I guess only micro soft actually have the tech knowhow and recourses to be able to police like that and thankfully a private persecution avenue is available.
I hope botnet get taken down.

still looks like a bandaid after you cut yourself, rather than sharpening the knife to prevent it in the first place.
windows pushes its crappy FW on all network connections, yet did not prevent things like this at all.

If they don't get the people behind it. I fear a similar botnet will be created, but with another name and with a new domain algorithm.
Since apparently there is to much money to be made and if they don't get them, then why would they stop.

once you start seeing how much bandwidth gets consumed by spam/scam, ppl might take it even more serious

I couldn't block a lot of them because the sender address was my own address... like wtf? how was I sending spam email to myself? that was the one that had me stumped, it was like they were hiding their address and it showed my own instead... I couldn't figure out how to block them but then started making hundreds of rules for what words would make a email get sent to trash and deleted, which helped a little, but then the spam emails started using different spelling for certain words which then made my rules not work, which then made me make even more rules, which was just so annoying to do.

But yeah, like you said about a week ago I was like.... I'm not getting any spam, after literally years of the same stuff every single day.

Just checked it now, and no spam, which to me is just amazing.

I completely agree with that, what I find alarming is the deep involvement of a corporation. It should have been done by a estate nation (ideally a group of).

It could not be done otherwise. That's like arguing that controlling pollution would not require the deep involvement of industrial companies for example. As they (meaning the tech industry) are the conduit for this material of course they would be inherently deeply involved.
Some might argue your apparent preference for Govt take over of the internet, to be more dangerous.

Serving up all those junk emails that attempt to defraud people costs money... server money in time, maintenance and electricity/bandwidth.
Also, if all MS customers are getting spammed and get taken to the bank by the scammers, less money left for Microsoft store purchases. So yes it behooves them to have a good part in it, and also keeps the customers happier. It's win-win for them, too bad no one thinks about that when they hate on Microsoft.
