Microsoft today confirmed that it plans to release a Windows Activation Technologies Update for Windows 7 that will detect 70 known activation exploits. In the coming days we'll be deploying a new... More...
Exactly, problem solved -_- I suppose they probably hope to get the casual pirates with this, since anyone with half a brain cell is just going to do as above.
Yep, I install, download the latest updates and then crack. And stop automatic updates - most of them are useless anyway
they will probably release something very interesting youll want but then ud have to get that update and ur crack is gone.
At least it's optional... ....as long as this update doesn't fubar my legitimate Win7 64 upgrade, I'll be fine. M$ has had a problem in the past of sometimes having their updates fubar legit machines.
I dont see this as being a problem. Even for windows XP, you just refuse to install WGA. Same thing here, just don't install it, and hide it so it doesn't bother anyone. I doubt they can legally "sneak" it in, naming it something else. I'm sure even after they release it, some hack group will find a way to emulate it so your PC says it's installed when it isn't. Or simply find a way to disable it from checking. Like skiddywinks said, it'll catch casual pirates.
I hope it doesn't disable the whole windows, currently running a pirated version but I've already bought a legal one aswell with my student discount, just cba to format yet.
People who run Automatically Install Updates deserve to have their systems fubar'd, anyway. Auto-Download + Selective Install, the friend of all pirates.
pirates should only fear the Service Packs, the already activated versions will not be detected i am sure of it since they use OEM bios emulation and this is will not be addressed by the update, gonna keep my automatic updates on
uhm is it really automatic ? i cant remember ever turning it on or off. i just get a message that there are updates, so i can manually choose what to do.
Anyone with half a brain doesn't pirate (otherwise known as stealing) software. Those that do, deserve whatever FUBAR comes their way.
I remember when Microsoft put out the genuine software advantage. It was cracked fast. But on topic now, just don't be cheap and buy it already. Or use the beta builds that are legal still.
Microsoft pisses on us PC gamers, latest Alan Wake not coming to PC. Why would I care to support them? The day gaming move to another OS the better for everyone.
This isn't about people who download Windows off torrents, this is about finding the people who are selling copies of Windows to hundreds/thousands of people in various different countries. The person who bought pirated software can easily get in touch with Microsoft and let them know how they obtained it and Microsoft goes after the seller. This isn't anything new, they've been doing it for a while now and it's actually pretty effective. They even offer deals to the people who bought pirated versions of the software. This is the most immature thing I've ever seen. So because Microsoft takes one game and makes it 360 exclusive, you should be entitled to have Windows for free? Give me a break.
It's not the point that you support them or not, it's the point of being legal or not. And you act like Microsoft is the only one who does things like that to PC gamers. And +1 for Denial. Just grow up, it's not the last game in the world. Plus you're always welcome to use a different OS. You know there is Wine for Linux, and Cider for Mac.
