    Close i have an ssd. And you have 16gb of ram and cortana is the one that is gonna push you over the line? Then me with 4 i should be driving my swap file crazy. Weird that it doesn't though.

    And notepad's function is in the name. It's to take notes. Someone calls you and you need to write down a number? Open notepad. For me having anything more would be bloat (weird how that works right?)

    There's a billion users and everyone has different tastes. As you can't make a version for each one you try to make one that appeals to most. I agree that people should more easily be able to add/remove features (as it already exists to a degree) but people should also understand that microsoft won't code an os based on what "johnny42" thinks is necessary to have.

    An SSD is still slow compared to RAM. Again, I said Cortana by itself isn't a problem - the point is it along with everything else is unnecessary bloat. Bloat comes down to more than just the memory and disk space it uses up. It's also the clutter in the Start menu, the extra time it takes to get updated (Windows Update is very slow), the CPU and disk attention it steals when starting up, and so on.

    If you keep your RAM usage below 75%, you're not going to see frequent swap usage. If you want to keep the crap, fine - I don't care. But it should be optional, and if I make it go away it should stay gone.

    Except even MS has already obsoleted that with their own sticky notes, which are much more useful for the scenario you described.
    For just an extra MB or two, you can get text editors that are actually useful for things like coding or writing documents. It's not bloat when the extra size serves practical purposes.

    I agree - you can't please everyone. But it is also easily possible to reduce the amount of people you bother. Despite all the bloated stuff Mac comes with, people aren't bothered by it, for 2 reasons:
    1. It's actually decent software for what you get out of the box; it isn't blatantly inadequate.
    2. It doesn't get in your way, and if it does it isn't hard to remove.

    Windows is meant to be as compliant and generic as possible to appeal to the widest audience. It should have applications that fulfill the needs of almost everyone who use their OS. I know of people who found Windows 10 daunting, because the Start screen was just too busy.

    People will complain about anything MS does. If you even say "Windows 10" these people get all fired up. Some of the criticisms here are laughable.

    Assuming your comment includes me, I actually don't hate W10 as much as it might seem. I actually like most things it has to offer, to the point I recommend it to people over W7. I even liked the Start screen in W8, at least in theory (it was poorly executed); W10 greatly improved upon it. I don't care about MS "spying on me". Though I am concerned about the economic issues with the Windows Store, I have never needed it and I don't deem it bloatware, so it doesn't bother me.

    But, I don't like it when I can't remove things, I don't like it when disabling things becomes a burden, I don't like outdated crap, and I really don't like it when things I remove or disabled come back. If that's not worthy of complaining, what is by your definition?

    Laughing at others without elaboration is equally laughable.

    I have a mate who works in a school and uses Windows 10 LTSB 2016 as his base image for all the new WDS images he rolls out. So far he's found Sticky Notes and Photo Viewer have been removed! These are 2 of the most popular programs his teachers actually use, and M$ thinks otherwise? Photoviewer can be added back with a reg hack, but Sticky Notes is Store App now and LTSB has no Windows Store!

    Sticky Notes is a sticky subject for me. Some tit at work stored her passwords on her sticky notes and complained when they weren't restored after her profile was rebuilt. I said you shouldn't be storing anything on the desktop, and that includes sticky notes.

    I'm a bit surprised LTSB doesn't have the store. You'd think that'd be the one feature MS would try to sneak in. After a quick google search, it does seem possible to add the store if you need to.

    Also weird they'd remove photo viewer. That just seems more like an inconvenience to the user than anything.

    Yeah, M$ seems intent on forgetting 'Desktop Apps' and forcing everything onto Windows Store, Sticky Notes included! Having people use Sticky Notes for passwords though is always asking for trouble, deleting the profile is good way to prove that :) I've seen proper sticky notes stuck to monitors with all sorts of things like credit card numbers and online passwords!

    Most people at my work use sticky notes for work passwords, and i am one of them.

    The requirement for more complex passwords that need to be changed every 30 days is just forcing people into compromising security by storing that password digitally or physically.

    As for Windows Store apps, i used to hate them but they are slowly growing on me. Everything feels snappier, and while i know it isn't a native app i have even switched Kodi to the store version.

    The Netflix app still annoys me though, that was much better on W8.

    I write my passwords down, and have firefox sync the site passwords + put them in .doc file saving drive that isnt part of OS drive + have it on usb stick

    I still refuse to use Windows store apps out side weather app and Xbox app to disable things

    Most people have to write them down, remembering passwords that force you use certain characters and forcing you to change them every 30 days isn't realistic.
    People do need to know that anything stored locally on a PC at work is likely not backed up though, so i can understand people in IT getting annoyed at people getting annoyed.

    With the exception of Netflix all my store apps work really well, and it also has imo the best optimised game of the last few years in GOW4, which even outside the optimisation side of things is always quick and snappy to start up.

    I write passwords down in text document, then put it in a passworded .rar file, then put the .rar file inside a different passworded .zip file... the only passwords I can remember are for the .rar and .zip hahaha

    Then I have them copied on external usb thumb drive xD

    The article from Microsoft states that Paint is not completely gone. It was just relegated to the Microsoft Store. So if desired it can be downloaded and installed. No biggie.

    Can this be done without having to create a Microsoft account?

    Not sure. I have always logged into my ms account when downloading something from the store and then log out afterwards. 10 is linked to my ms account but use a local account when on the pc.

    Remove all the bloatware and make it downloadable from store.

    LTSB 2016 DOES remove all the bloatware: No Cortana, No Windows Store, No pre-installed APPS and No EDGE browser :)

    You can get Photo Viewer back with a reg hack, credit to original author left in! Just copy/paste the below info to a .reg file and import it:

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    Sticky Notes can also be added back by downloading and extracting the RAR file from here:

    Code:
    https://web.archive.org/web/20161128172120/http://www.techflute.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/StickyNotes(TechFlute.com).rar
    Once extracted, open either StickyFile86 (32bit Windows 10) or StickyFile64 (64bit Windows 10) and manually copy the following files to the relevant paths:

    SNTSearch.dll --> C:\Windows\Sytstem32
    sntsearch.dll.mui --> C:\Windows\Sytstem32\en-us
    StikyNot.exe --> C:\Windows\Sytstem32
    StikyNot.exe.mui --> C:\Windows\Sytstem32\en-us

    Then create a shortcut for StikyNot.exe in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Windows Accessories so it appears in the Start Menu under Windows Accessories where it normally lives!

    There is an SLC folder with a 32bit and 64bit dll inside but I didn't copy that, think it goes in Sytem32, Sticky Notes seems to work without that file, but this install was for Server 2012 so it might be needed for that!
