Microsoft officially launched Windows 365, a cloud-based PC service that provides businesses with a virtual Windows 10 desktop. The service was officially launched earlier this week.... Microsoft has halted the Windows 365 trial because of "extremely high demand."
Stupid question. One still needs a base computer to acces the Windows 365 service, isn't it? A tablet or cheap computer of sorts. Am I wrong? Assuming this, one can have Windows 365 "streamed" into a Linux desktop, say?
Yeap. It's made so you can have the same "computer" no matter where you work from, switch devices etc. You only really need a modern browser.
Yeah, and browser is one of the most demanding "simple office" applications. Even Excel with hundreds of MB spreadsheet do not eat RAM so easily as browsers. You now need powerfull PC to connect to worse one, but "the same"...
You can host a computer with internet connection at any location and access it remotely from anywhere, same deal. I already do that with my office computer. Whats the actually advantage of this, i cant see it tbh... maybe businesses can cut on IT staff, upgrade cost, electricity, etc... is that the case?
It's also manageable policy wise, updates in all platforms are clunky. If you're updating an image, on the other hand, things are much easier.
I look at this and see the future. Normal people having a basic device allowing them to access 'their pc' at Microsoft where everything is stictly surveilled and analysed.
May this pave even a larger path of ubiquitous fast fiber internet connection. For those needing a better faster computer, it's a viable solution. Tapping into a HEDT from a Celeron based office computer. The only thing to care is the internet connection and the browser. Wait, you can do this wih Guacamole, but you need to "own" both computers. Whatever, if there is a demand, here is the offer. And surveillance and control... it's that news anymore?
