You can still upgrade using a Windows 7 or 8 Key though.

Yep, I just used a 7 key for a fresh install yesterday, and it activated just fine. I've done maybe 50 machines like that in the past year.

I didn't go around hunting to check my good dudes, but the last time I actually did, there were not any utilities performing these spyware removal techniques. I do it to every machine I touch.

For the first one, you can delete the parent key(s) found when searching, instead.

For the second one, you can delete the whole key instead:

If you compare the screenshot to yours, you can see I removed other stuff as well. This is for Win7 SP1 x64. For other OSes, do at your own risk. Set Restore Point first or have backup, as always the simple good advice (it's on you! not me, to not mess up. Should be cool, I think though.) Enjoy and you're welcome.

This is for desktop machine. I am sure you are intelligent enough to know what to do. There are a few disabled instead of removed, that the folders still appear for, like Media Center, Remote Assistance. If you let Windows defrag instead of 3rd party, don't delete that. Again, backup or system restore before you do it.

If sending usage info and bug reports helps improve the os over time im all for sending reports, as for spying....if people dont want to be tracked then they should not be using the internet....period, your Isp knows what you do online.

I guess they're up to something highly illegal or simply don't like change. Good luck using windows 7 for the rest of your lives.

Why does this shill statement always appear online? Some of us know how to use our machines, you know.

Let me tell you something: What I showed people to remove are logs of every file ever touched by a user. In other words, you open a file or even type, it puts it into those logs being created and MS gets them. If one takes my steps, MS will never.

Good, now make Win11 that doesn't smell like bloatware and designed for desktop PCs.

"Within two to three years of Windows 10's release, there will be 1 billion devices running Windows 10," Terry Myerson, Microsoft's vice president of operating systems, said Wednesday during the keynote presentation at the company's annual Build developer conference in San Francisco."

lol. Anyway, I'm sure they hit the upgrade plateau a long time ago and aren't benefiting much by leaving it free. I do expect them to do something when 7 hits EOL in January 2020, let's see. Easiest way to get people to upgrade would've been making something people find desirable.

For the adware stuff, I don't use the store or uwp apps and set the telemetry to security. They don't seem to be using telemetry/feedback to actually improve windows much as it seems like all their development time goes into the UWP side of things, so I don't feel bad at all :p
