You can still upgrade using a Windows 7 or 8 Key though.

Yep, I just used a 7 key for a fresh install yesterday, and it activated just fine. I've done maybe 50 machines like that in the past year.

If sending usage info and bug reports helps improve the os over time im all for sending reports, as for spying....if people dont want to be tracked then they should not be using the internet....period, your Isp knows what you do online.

I guess they're up to something highly illegal or simply don't like change. Good luck using windows 7 for the rest of your lives.

Good, now make Win11 that doesn't smell like bloatware and designed for desktop PCs.

"Within two to three years of Windows 10's release, there will be 1 billion devices running Windows 10," Terry Myerson, Microsoft's vice president of operating systems, said Wednesday during the keynote presentation at the company's annual Build developer conference in San Francisco."

lol. Anyway, I'm sure they hit the upgrade plateau a long time ago and aren't benefiting much by leaving it free. I do expect them to do something when 7 hits EOL in January 2020, let's see. Easiest way to get people to upgrade would've been making something people find desirable.

For the adware stuff, I don't use the store or uwp apps and set the telemetry to security. They don't seem to be using telemetry/feedback to actually improve windows much as it seems like all their development time goes into the UWP side of things, so I don't feel bad at all :p

I hated Windows 10 when it was released, still don't care for it but it has been keeping me busy at my shop. So keep up the great work Microsoft.

You know, as hardware and software continually evolves, telemetry provides valuable information. If you use Facebook, I'm going to laugh out loud at you.

What windows needs to stop doing is upgrading people without their permission. I'm on 1607 enterprise and I've tried both 1703 and 1709 which had huge stuttering and fps issues with games. I've been holding off until the next big update where Microsoft hopefully fixes it. Just today I noticed a 1709 update being installed without asking me. I quickly cut the internet, forced windows update to stop, cleared out the downloaded files and ran wushowhide to block the update. I'm just glad I noticed before Microsoft stealth installed it.
