Ok so I'm a little lost here, I got some new ddr3 2x1gb memory and after installing it the other day my computer ran fine, then I left.

When i came back, I was staring at a lovely blue screen.

Well turns out one of the memory sticks had gone bad, one wouldn't post.

So I need to know, what caused this?

Because my computer shows no record of the crash error and I got some new memory, the store let me trade it out.

No error code on the BSOD either, just you know,

"check any new hardware you might have instal- blah blah blah blah blah blah........"

    (sorry fellas no minidumps):bang:

From my experience If rams gonna go its gonna go from the start.

with this current build i bought the ram and one stick was stuffed from the start so i took it back and the next was the same lol , so any way i actually had to go back 3-4 times before i got a decent one.
Its only generic but what are the chances of gettin that many in a row that where crap lol.

Dont know much about the ddr3 ram but id suggest double checkin that they runnin at the right voltage.

But my bet if everything is runnin fine now it was just a dodgy stick.

RMA the memory chip. Just run the system on that single stick for now.

ok so im running on the two new sticks now and its running fine but i had to down clock both sticks to 1066mhz

which makes no sense at all, because both sticks are 1333 and so is the FSB

now i know i shouldnt be complaining "its working whats your problem!?"
but i am because i got the new ram so my computer's performance would stop bottle necking at the memory.

When i run at 1333 it runs fast but it freezes, just freezes, no blue screen, no crash report, just an ice hard, num-lock key does nothing, mouse wont move, FREEZE.
I want to fix this .

I am getting no noticable performance increase with the 2 gigs at 1066....just as slow.

make sure you set up the timings, speed and voltage manually via the bios(whatever the stock settings are). leaving them on auto will cause issues. run memtest86+ on each module for at least 4hrs each if that doesnt help. unless you get errors right off the bat. if they wont run at their stock speeds there is something wrong with them or the way they are set up.

It's very likely you'll need to manually adjust the voltage for your RAM in the BIOS. Very common for it to be set in the SPD for something very conservative like 1.5v @ 1066 MHz and to run it at 1333 requires something higher, like 1.6v. I would check with the memory manufacturer website for specifications.
