So as ever I can't sleep and am reading the BBC News website. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8160081.stm is a fascinating article; basically researchers have spent month after month constructing a database of (British) soldiers who served during an approximately 100 year period in the 14th and 15th centuries. The actual website of the database is http://www.medievalsoldier.org/ and you can search using a variety of parameters. There's a single record of someone with my surname - well, the medieval form of my surname anyway! It's quite incredible that such detailed records exist from back then, especially when you think that - unlikely as it is - I could be a distant relative. Anyone else find records of people with their surnames? I imagine there'll be a lot of "hits" for common surnames but it's nice to know at least some of us with obscure names are in there :nerd:
Nothing for me Although my names changed quite a bit since then, trying old school versions of my name now if the site ever loads ><
Under the garrison search : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man-at-arms Pretty much a professional solder, with the same surname as I. Don't like his first name though; Dronet, what he .... is it like a small drone ? XD
