    Thanks BetA for the update.

    I wanted to ask a question about black crushing when using 16-235 shader. I have FFV and MPC-BE set to output fully at 0-256 and there is "slight" white haze even in 4K content.

    If I apply 16-235 shader, the colors sharpens up but I can visibly see black crush in the background where 0-256 output shows the details. The thing is, in "real life" there is not such haze nor black crush and I can see everything clearly.

    Left side is full 0-256 RGB output, Right side is with 16-235 shader added. Much better colors on the right, but missing background details...

    Any idea how to improve on this?

    try madVR as renderer. it either fixes it instantly (if u set it up) or you have to fiddle with the range yourself like i had to.. you can here set your own RANGE:
    sbdhthgrdgrsg.PNG

    *you could also edit the shader itself. If you know how :)

    wich shader are you using exactly? like the filename?
    Also what monitor/TV are you using? doe sit have HDR?

    GTX 1060 with default settings on video, I did not touch this.

    I am using "16-235 to 0-255.hlsl" shader under pre-resize to enable the right screenshot.
    I also use LumaSharpen in post re-size.

    If I disable the pre-shader, I get the slight white haze.

    I just switched to MadVR from Enhanced Video Render (custom - I have 10 set for EVR buffers) and same thing.

    Setting both output to 0-255 or 16-253, or custom, it still looks hazed.

    My display is a HD TV Benq, 8-bit, no HDR.

    Do I need to adjust the gamma default from 2.2 to something lower? AFAIK, my screen has not been calibrated with an external device but I tried to set the menu settings as close to software calibration as possible.

    Edit.. I closed and restarted MPC-BE, set it to MADVR, set the output to 8bit display with PC range 0-255 and it fixed it! No need for the "16-235 to 0-255.hlsl" shader now!

    I still use LumaSharpen instead of Adaptive Sharpen as it is less noisy to up the details. If you use a better sharpen filter, let me know!

    Thank you!

    Lumasharpen is one of the better ones, u can keep it or use the ones madVR provides..
    if u use Lumasharpen u can change the sharpen intensity here:

    LumaSharpen.hlsl open with a editor of your choice and look for those lines:

    Code:
    // -- Sharpening --
    #define sharp_strength 1.10   //[0.10 to 3.00] Strength of the sharpening
    #define sharp_clamp    0.012  //[0.000 to 1.000] Limits maximum amount of sharpening a pixel recieves - Default is 0.035

    // -- Advanced sharpening settings --
    #define pattern 4        //[1|2|3|4] Choose a sample pattern. 1 = Fast, 2 = Normal, 3 = Wider, 4 = Pyramid shaped.
    #define offset_bias 1.0 //[0.0 to 6.0] Offset bias adjusts the radius of the sampling pattern.
                             //I designed the pattern for offset_bias 1.0, but feel free to experiment.
    those are my settings, they are subtile, so only sharpen very fine without any artefacts etc...

    hope that helps :)
