So, out of some boredom and curiosity I reinstalled this. Having not touched it in years.
Went through, followed ****'s instructions for widescreen setup. Only to discover... what they say doesn't seem to do anything. When I add in the line to the cfg file for the FOV the game looks the same as it did before...

And weapons with round parts look oval in shape. Like the cylinder on the revolver, or the ammo drum on the thompson machine gun. Any suggestions?

I think ****'s instructions are missing a step. Look at Allied Assaults instructions and make this change:

    seta r_mode "-1"

See if that works. I thought I had gotten this to work properly at some point but I haven't played it in years either.

r_mode -1 allows custom resolutions using the r_customheight/width command. So yeah, try that.

For some reason the abbreviation for Wide Screen Gaming Forum is a forbidden term

while changing the resolution will work, allied assault games dont work with this.

While I haven't played Allied Assualt in many years I seem to remember this working when you change the FOV from the developer console. You first have to enable it in the cfg file though.

from what i remember, you can still change the fov with the 'fov 90' command in the console.
you will have to do this every time you load though, and its only working in some single player maps not all. so its pretty crap.
the config fov doesnt work either.

The seta r_mode "-1" doesn't work in Pacific Assault. It works in Allied Assault, but not Pacific.
They modified the engine enough that it handles things slightly differently.
Using the seta lines doesn't do anything. The only change in them is now they are 'set cg_fov' instead of seta. But, even so, the r_mode one doesn't do anything.

What does playing around with 'Adjust desktop size and position' in Nvcpanel get you?

It either stretches it or pillar boxes it. Which, is how I've come to play it.... pillar boxed. While fullscreen it runs at my desktop res, but the oddly stretched and oval shaped weapons annoys me enough. :)

    No problem.

I've opted to simply play the game at a smaller 4:3 resolution. Everything I find online suggests the same old "Quake 3 Arena Engine widescreen setup"... which doesn't work. Because the studio that made Pacific Assault reworked the engine so much, the majority of the old cfg file tweaks no longer apply properly.
