    Benchmark for Maya 5

    Hi there,

there is a specific aplication benchmark for maya 5 at specbench.org.It´s called: "SPECapc for Maya 5". The current
version is 1.3.It is in very intense benchmark test (took about an
hour, to finish).Unfortunately i do not understand the results of this benchmark test.It seam´s to me the the resulting xls file has some error´s in it.But if the results are correct, i would be a little
    dissapointed.

Furthermore i do not understand the results, they are showing on there online result browser. For example:

    Leading result:

    Dell Precision Workstation 360 3.2GHz
(Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 3.20GHz)
    with nVIDIA Quadro FX 1000

it shows an overall graphics composite result of 4.11
an overall cpu result of 2.22 and an overall i/o result of 2.25

    Thats ok for now.

But when i open the link to the details, i noticed that the (maybe)
average values of this system are lower then my.

For example: Werewolf.ma (3 turns to avg)

    Dell: My System:

    Project: 4.41 Project: 5.02
Graphics wireframe: 4.01 Graphics wireframe: 6.01
Graphics smooth shade: 5.99 Graphics smooth shade: 10.18
Texture download: 21.08 Texture download: 18.30 Texture: 7.88 Texture: 13.98
    Textured selected : 10.69 Textured selected: 16.98
Texture highlighted: 13.83 Texture highlighted: 21.58

Maybe someone has a clou about this.

Oh btw, i´m using the SoftGL 1034 driver (antiprotec).

    Additionally i benchmarked with 3DMark 2003.
Because this benchmark is developed for gaming purpose, i did expected an lower result compared to the original 9800 driver.

    With Catalyst 3.9 i received a value of 5896 3DMark, and
with the SoftGL 1034 driver an unexpected low value of 3953 3DMark.The reason for this low value is, the GT4 - Mother Nature
and the Pixel Shader 2.0 benchmark test. Both are not supported
by the SoftGL driver.Maybe someone know´s a workaround to
    use it too?!

That´s for now, i´m currently downloading SPECviewperf 7.11
(about 290 MB <- Why do they have to make them so big??, grrr).
We will see, what this one says.

    regards

Just how much difference does that softmod make in Maya 5 because it's mainly the dual plains feature that makes maya alot faster.

    Re: Benchmark for Maya 5

Workaround is to read manual. 102x-103x FireGL driver are NOT DX9 compatible.

I've just run specAPC for Maya with both firegl (1034) and catalyst drivers (3.9-7-95). Here are my results:

    fgl:
    GFX 2,59
    I/O 2,15
    CPU 2,01
    Overall 2,42

    cat:
    GFX 2,10
    I/O 2,18
    CPU 2,02
    Overall 2,09

So it seems softmodding it gives me about 25% graphics performance increase. Not bad, but not too incredible either.

Unwinder, does this mean we have no DX accelleration at all? Is this a temporary situation with certified drivers? I can't seem to find the manual you're talking about.

Well, unified driver are DX9 compatible.
103x driver should be DX8 compatible.
But I don't think DX9 compatible driver will improve your opengl maya benchmark... Unless unified driver are more efficient in opengl too...
Well, if it can help... I will try to use that benchmark on 1036 and unifed drivers...

JoeJoe, could you tell us where you read this please?

I can only imagine unified drivers DEcreasing Maya performance - why else would you want certified drivers? If not, I'm switching to unified right now, because I'd rather have DX9 than DX8 if it's all the same to Maya.

Yes, I know, I should check them all, 1034 vs 1036 vs unified.

[this is where you persuade me to do so..]

Well, I am using Maya, XSI AND 3DS Max (doing that in a school that learn us those tree softwares in one year...), So for me Unified driver was really interresting for maxtreme drivers... That's why I am using that drivers...

To know if your driver is DX7, 8 or 9 compatible, I think you can try with 3D Mark wich generally tells you if you have hardware support of typicall Dx7, 8 or 9 functions...

But don't mind I want to convince you to use unified drivers, that is for me a personnal case (moreover at first I was not able to use it with XSi (freezing viewport) but now it is working well as an X2 with maxtreme drivers ----> I am quite happy with the softwares I am using...)

And for opengl improvement, I really don't know, sorry if my English disturbed you, (not really my mother tongue) I was just WONDERING if unified driver had a better opengl quality and speed...

EDIT: 7.93.4.1 driver have just been released!!!! Another driver to try... If rivatuner is able to patch them... Interesting thing is that it is supporting mobility fire gl 9000...

Hey JoeJoe, I didn't mean to imply you were trying to convince me to use this or that driver. I was just looking for some encouragement to do this (tedious) benchmarking. I've persuaded myself in the meantime, btw, because I think that's the best way to assess their respective performances.

So here's the plan: the only high end 3d package I use is Maya, so I won't check the 1036 driver; it's between 1034 and unified drivers. I'll run both specAPC and 3Dmark to have an idea of opengl and DX performance. With the driver that scores best (on average), I will also try to use it as an X2 (not sure this can be done with all versions, though).

It may be till the weekend before I get started on this, but I'll sure post my findings here.

Tried to patch the latest unified drivers, but had no luck.

Have anyone else tried? There seems to be some kind of antialiasing trouble fixed in them, and it would be really nice to try out. plus there is something new related to tv detection , wich I have had trouble with.

let us know how your doing ... Best of luck !

I've tried, and I have seen in nvworld.ru that we are not the only one who tried.

    http://www.nvworld.ru/php/viewtopic.php?t=7388
Darth did it because he has hard modded its graphic card

For now there is no patch that is working for opengl... And Unwinder already tells us that he won't support softfireglfor new releases so quickly as he uses to do... Maybe no more patch release
For tv detection, I think this is a mistake, because real firegl don't have tv out... :( But why not?

Jep, I read that he has stopped supporting scripts for firegl-mod with the newer drivers, and I do not blame him, he have had to put up with a lot of complaining and whining. Lets hope he comes back to it later on, or that someone else takes up the thread.

As for tv: in the releasenotes section 1.4 it says :

    blabla blabla
    blablablabl

TV is not Enabled During First Boot

    blabla blabla

    Force tv detection.

I guess they keep the possibilities open for manufacturers that want to make an All in Wonder Firegl card :) LOL !!! Dont know if it would help me anyway, have not ben able to get my tv working with any driver, so...
Maby I should rma it, or try it in another pc, if its driver related.

Well, sorry for driving this thread totaly off the maya theme....

    Best regards, Mindnumb.

    Hi all ,

I have softmodded my Hercules Radeon9800 ( ID 49 ) , and using unified drivers from Ati's page.

Well I'm posting here because I'm not sure if my control panel is corectly installed.

I have modified the "install.ini" in the FGLPanel to have the Direct3D tab with Unwinder trick :

    ";Direct3D=1" becomes "Direct3D=1"

Ok but here is my control panel :

    ( It's in french :) )

It's really poor , and not any option to control the OpenGL.

Do you have the exactly same control panel or did I make something wrong?

    Yep...
It's in french for me too ;)

More seriously, it is normal... that is a direct 3D for an optimized opengl driver...
For Open GL Settings....You choose the software you want, and that's all...
But you can choose in "paramètres avancés" (advanced parameters) the settings for anti aliasing...

i may have posted this question in the wrong thread.... here it is again:

i've got an ati 9800p128 running at fgl x1 using 1034 drivers. i get dismal performance in maya 5 and nothing i do seems to make any difference. i've also tried the freefiregl drivers at x2 and nothing makes a whit of difference. yes, i've turned off vertical retrace.

    anyone have any suggestions?

i once tried a geforce fx 5900 128 and got quite a bit better performance... maybe i'll have to go back to that. ugh.

So Joejoe , there is no special OpenGl settings in the control panel?

Someone told me that the FireGL control panel was great because of options.
But there are less options than in the cat CP , so why install this one?

And what are your Specview result?

    Here are mine : XP@2200 , Hercules Radeon9800@FireGLX2 :

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\3DSMAX\SUMMARY.TXT
    3dsmax-02 Weighted Geometric Mean = 18.17

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\DRV\SUMMARY.TXT
    drv-09 Weighted Geometric Mean = 89.06

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\DX\SUMMARY.TXT

    proe-02 Weighted Geometric Mean = 22.23

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\UGS\SUMMARY.TXT

With an overclocking of the card :

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\3DSMAX\SUMMARY.TXT

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\DRV\SUMMARY.TXT

I tried the special maya benchmark, and I was not able to finish it correctly...
But for specviiw necmarks, as I remember, It was quite OK...
I'll redo this, and post it in the next days...

If someone did perform the maya benchmark, tell me how do you do (I used Unifed driver @fgl X2 (7.88 version... of course... :( )...
I Know, that's maybe for that it is not working...

Which drivers are the 1034's? I tried to use RT with CAT 3.9 drivers, but no luck. Thanks

soundview 1034 is a certified driver (happens to be certified for x1 for maya). you can either get it from the dell support site, or from ati in the certified drivers section (at the bottom of the fire gl x1 driver download page)
