I have cd1 and cd2 from the link provided.I looked at the discs I burned and they are there and installed but now my audigy1 sound card when x starts up I just get a hum through the speakers.9.1 it configured it just fine.Is this release a little buggy?

Any linux release that is .0 is probably buggy. 10.0, 9.0 8.0 they all have issues. Not likely anything to worry about. Honestly I'd be surprised if this isn't something as simple as going into harddrake and setting the soundcard right. If I remember right, the soundblaster live/audigy series all use the same driver set in linux.

I just installed Mandrake Linux 10 last night as a dual boot with Windows XP Pro. I have never used linux before, but is was suprisingly easy to dual boot with windows. I guess I just expected it to be a pain in the ass. Now I just gotta figure out how to run and do everything.

Well mandrake runs like windows when it comes to opening programs, but when you look for files or install programs then it is completly different.

Just downloading it: 10.0-Community Download *Looks at FTP session*

Hope I get it all up and running before my UT2004 DVD pre-order arrives in the post 'cause like hell I'm playing that in Windows XP.

    I'm extremely excited. :D

Ive never used a Linux based OS.
Does it navigate like Windows and whats the real advantage of using linux over windows?

Navigate? yea, there are control panel like settings, surfs, emails the same. installing stuff is similar, but you need to be willing to look stuff up, and sometimes go through a little more to get stuff done.

Okay, Do StarStorm drivers work on Mandrake?
Is there still a desktop and a File explorer or some type?
Will it read NTFS Formatted HDDs?
Do I need special Drivers for Games like Ut2k3 or Tribes 2?

1st- you cant play games on linux, at least DirectX games (the majority of all games)

2nd - windows drivers dont work on it so of course StarStorm drivers dont

3rd - yes it can see NTFS drives

Yes you can play dx8 games, up to dx8.2 iirc. I've never attempted to do it, but I've been told it's not that difficult.
no, as far as I know starstorm drivers will not work.
Desktop, yes, much better than anything xp has, file explorer, yes, several.
ntfs, yes, fat32, fat 16, and a whack of others ms probably doesn't even want to know exist.
special drivers to get games working yes. open gl, nvidia drivers, and wine. Tribes 2 was known to run as well on linux as on windows, and in some cases better, (depends on who's running it) any games based on q3 apparently will run fairly well, ut series have allways worked on linux. Others also run, but don't look for these installs to be anything like your windows install.

On the bright side, don't worry about virus', weekly patches for yet another batch of holes. etc...
