As much as I like this texture mod, I have a feeling that Crytek will release their own texture mod with the DX11 update..
Simple. Console port! the textures are toned down because the little kiddies consoles can't support such good textures but that sucks for PC users as the textures are usually ported and its up to the game engine to make them look better The PC demo proved this. Press the start button? really? that thing that brings up the start menu and is the Windows shortcut key operator (for instart, start key and E for Explorer)? nope. Maldo proved this also. The original texture mod for Crysis 2 (before update 1.2 stuffed it up) proved this, since they used Crysis 1 textures to make things look better! Solution: Make textures for PC, like Maldo's on ALL textures, then downsample them so kiddies consoles can handle it. Will they ever likely to do this in the future? probably not
Maldo, these textures are outstanding and will surely improve this game's appearance by leagues. As a non-DX11 gamer (for now) I can't expect to get any improvement from the developers so it all depends on guys like you. Keep up the good work, m8.
Hello, some points: - I have no experience - Some textures in my pack are WIP, but my criteria to include or not is: Is better than original? If yes, I include it, although it could have done it much better with more time. - I don't have same texture skills now that when I start, so some textures are better than others. - I have modified only worse textures, so Crytek HD pack has a lot of textures changed that are unchanged in my mod. In the future, I will made a mix with best of 2 packs. Maybe someone else can do it before me. - MaLDo HD Texture Pack size is............. 300 mb compressed. - It's online http://maldotex.blogspot.com/
it's a "pity" that crytek is going to release its own texture pack... anyway, that's a GREAT work Maldo!!
Well at least MalDo's been using actual brand names, so an amalgamate texture extravaganza could be the bomb for a more immersing C2 experience. THANKS MalDo.
Yeah, a pick and mix of the two in the future could provide us with the best of both worlds, plus i always find user texture packs alot more "interesting" than developer ones due to it being mostly a single guy, rather than a whole dev team.
So I didn't really want to downgrade and 1.9 had that mod functionality but I didn't really know how to use it, turns out it's pretty simple actually. http://www.moddb.com/mods/crysis-2-and-the-chepter-machines/downloads That there tutorial gave the basics so I had it set up like this. C:\Games\Crysis2\Mods\TexturePack\GameCrysis2\ (Your three folders.) But that didn't work so I thought a bit and tried to download a Crysis1 mod, found the info and settings .xml files and re-rigged them (This is really basic and crudely done though it worked.) http://www.multiupload.com/CBPQC339XV So it became C:\Games\Crysis2\Mods\TexturePack\ (Settings.xml and Info.xml here, settings.xml might not be needed.) And it worked again, might also work to put the files in a fully compressed .zip archive and name it "Name".pak instead of using loose files directly but I haven't tested. So there we go, absolutely first (Well there might be others but it's amongst the first.) Crysis 2 1.9 "Mod folder" mod. (HD being the Crysis1 texture replacements, merged them together afterwards and compared the matching textures.)
