I been thinking about getting a new ssd and go ahead and buy win8.1. I'm not sure if i should just wait till nine since its supposedly be out next year. I think waiting is best but just thought too ask.

get a cheap key from google shopping, I paid £40 and then downloaded it from Microsoft with the link and key provided.
it uses the cpu better than the previous and would be a nice stepping stone till win9, which lets face it will take a month or two at least to be user friendly /bug free /polished.
I totally skipped win8, I went straight to 8.1, installed on Samsung ssd which was zeroed before install.

I honestly wouldn't bother, no point upgrading now unless you need DX11.2 for something.....

    Up to you.

Unless Win8.x has something you want or need....it's not worth it.

Whatever is expected to be released in 2015....possibly the last, non-subscription based Windows release.....if the rumors for Windows10 are even remotely accurate.

Just made the switch to Windows 8 myself yesterday, automatically installed Start8 and now I'm fond of Windows 8. As long as I don't see the Metro UI its all good.:)

I guess between Windows 7 and 8 it's debatable, I mean, I'm on 8.1 and love it, but everyone feels differently about it. It's possible now with 8.1 to make it behave much like 7, in fact a better version of 7 with the underlying improvements, and your exposure to "Metro" can be made minimal with the right settings if you don't like it or want to mostly avoid it. And the SSD you're thinking of would be great. I just bought one myself about a month ago, a Samsung 840 EVO 250 GB, and I couldn't be happier. Makes all the difference in the world, and I wasn't even sure at first how much better it would be.
