^^ that's called open ending. The devs basically lets your imagination decide.

    It's called lazy writing.
They craft a solid, well paced story... only to drop the ball at the ending without bringing it to an actual conclusion.
Now, if there had been some DLC to give us another chapter to wrap up the story. To show what Vito does, or what happens to Joe...
    But no.

An open ending that has nothing done with it is pointless.

Exactly, it really kind of ruined the game for me. Didn't hate it, but meh

Mafia had a better story, Mafia II had better gunplay and driving. But both are great games.

Mafia 2 also had a good story. The issue with Mafia 2 is that they diverted away from the sandbox style open ended gameplay that was in Mafia 1. You really had no reason to go and explore in Mafia 2 like that of in Mafia 1 which made it such a wonderful and fantastic game. Glad that they're going back to the basics from Mafia 1 to make Mafia 3.

They removed the multiple endings, that's why the game became extremely linear. Mafia 2 took 2 steps back compared to it's prequel. Heck, I bet the cannibalized most of the cut content for Jimmy's DLC.

While I disagree with Rockstar having any influence, I would definitely disagree with the way the game was cut.

    New Mafia III trailer.
Release date October 7th, this year.

Looks awesome. I can not wait.
Also, before people start bringing back up "Well, those old videos showed cars just exploding for no reason"...
The developers stated in interviews that they had tweaked the cars damage just for that preview event.
In game, the cars won't just explode like that for no reason.

    Instabuy for me :)

Loved the first Mafia in BIG BIG ways. Like the 2nd one actually too. Story was really cool and the first snow Setting gave the game this very Special, no other open world game had before except for Just Cause 2. Too bad that once you finish the Story there is not much else to do. Loved how GTAV has done it with those cool mini stories and such. Hope that Mafia III will have a good replayability.

Mafia III is said to offer a lot of side activities and reasons to explore the city.
This could be hit and miss for me. I loved Mafia 1 and 2's story driven path. Set in an open city, but it's only there to make the story feel more grounded.

I hope the side stuff doesn't get in the way of the story this time around.
Hell, in GTAV I didn't really veer off the main path. Some of the "freaks and strangers" stuff was entertaining, but... I didn't feel compelled to go searching for all of them.
And once I finished the story, I was done with the game.

2K Czech, the studio behind Mafia 1 and 2 was restructured some time ago. With it's main studio in Prague closed.

Since then, they've been assisting Hanger 13 on Mafia III's development. Providing insight, gameplay testing and other information.

    I'm going to pre-purchase.
Sorry, I know that's like a mark of sin to so many around here, but... the amount of times I've been burned by pre-ordering compared to the times I haven't... is very, very minimal.
    Mafia III looks great.

If he wants to pre-order, let him. It's his choice.
