Looks like it takes place in the 1950s judging by the cars.

Yeah, also from this screenshot you can see MP40, which were made in service after 1939. The first game took part in 1938, so as you said the next Mafia will be probably around 1945-1950.

Mafia II takes place from 1945-1955 or something like that or i think i read somewhere that the storyline spans several years.

Just like the original game where it went from late 1920's- mid 1930's etc.

if only Vice City looked this good.
the 30's era did have some nice architectural objects and environments, but i'd prefer a more modern time period. looks better than gta4 graphically, but after viewing the features list for gta4, i think it will be a more in depth, realistic and fun game...just hope the pc version comes out by years end.

If this turns out to be even remotely as good as the first one, it will definitely be game of the year, perhaps after Alan Wake though :p

A mini preview has appeared on Czech Tiscali games... I know majority can't read it, but there's 3 exclusive new screenshots there as well, so have a look... http://games.tiscali.cz/previews/mafia2info/index.asp

    - 20 square kilometers of playable area, inspired mostly by San Francisco.
    - Primarily developed for 360 and PS3, should appear on these first and then with a few weeks/months delay on the PC (might change, reason is PC piracy).
    - No official release date yet, but it's mostly estimated for spring/early summer 2009.
    - The color scheme resembles the one used in Bioshock.
    - Cover system similar to GOW.
    - Physics and deformable environments should be better looking than those in Burnout Paradise.
    - No connection at all to the first game, story wise.

i wonder if they went through the detail of NPC's like GTA4 does with the euphoria code.
gta4 will likey be more realistic but mafia 2 will likely have a much better storyline and graphics.
potential release date too far away to care too much though

Well from my point of view, PC version is going to be cancel because of today hardware cost and pc piracy but for console, its more easy for them to make the game that run on all system at 100% when PC is 50% due of each person has difference hardware.

its sad that they going to delay or cancel mafia 2 for pc because the first game start it on PC and it will end on PC on the first part.
