    LuxRender is a completely free, open source, physically based renderer with many contributors led by Jean-Philippe Grimaldi. LuxRender version 1.5 introduces the following features:
    - microkernel architecture for significantly faster rendering,
    - biased path tracing engine (including tiled rendering, radiance clamping and many more),
    - adaptive rendering,
    - Intel Embree-based accelerator,
    - Laser light source type
    - arbitrary clipping planes,
    - pointiness option for materials,
    - volume priority system,
    - hair strand primitives,
    - up to 16 times faster exporting for meshes
    - new 3Ds max plugin,
    - volumetric emission system.

    The final release of the 1.5 version of LuxRender has been delayed a bit more than expected because of some annoying bugs found during final testing, but here it is and we hope that you'll enjoy using it and make our jaws drop with new renderings.
    As for v1.4, LuxRender itself has not seen much changes but the new LuxCore rendering core has gained a lot of features and nearly matches classic LuxRender. We won't stop there though and lots of exciting stuff is already pending for v1.6.
    You can get a visual outlook of the new features in the wiki: major speed improvements, volume precedence, new materials and textures, volume emission, strands, better integration in Blender and 3DSMax to name just a few.
    Paolo, Reality plugin author, has experimented more than 10x speed improvements with the new rendering modes:

    If you find any issue please report them in the forum or in our bug tracker. Note that OpenCL rendering modes can sometimes produce slightl different outputs than CPU rendering modes, most notably when using glossytranslucent material. The OpenCL compilation of the materials can sometimes take several minutes at the beginning of the rendering leaving you with a black render until the compilation is over. Those issues are investigated and we hope to be able to provide improvements in the next release.
