Hi, I'm new here, I hope it's is the correct place for my topic as I think my problem is related to my graphics card. EDIT: I thought I posted it in the general "NVIDIA Geforce" section, now it is in the driver section. Sorry for that, probably I was look too long for similar cases :/ I just got a new computer and tried to play Rise of the Tomb Raider. At the moment I'm playing on a 1080p 60Hz Monitor (I want to replace this one in the near future too). My problem now is that if I put the game to max settings, I only get fps around 45-55. If I reduce the settings I get max ~110 fps. Not even close to what I should get I think: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/gigabyte_aorus_gtx_1080_ti_xtreme_gaming_review,14.html I have these components: Gigabyte Aorus 1080 Ti Xtreme Edition Intel Core I7 8700K (Cooler: be quiet! Shadow Rock Slim) Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming K3 G.Skill 16GB 3200-16-18-18 Ripjaws V Corsair RM650X Software: Windows 10 1803 (Gamebar, DVR,... deactivated ->no change in fps) Geforce Experience with the newest driver installed (already cleaned once with DDU) (->no change in fps) I also updated the Bios to F6 (->no change in fps) On the motherboard I changed the profile that I can use the 3200Mhz of the ram instead of 2133Mhz (->no change in fps) I also run the 3DMark: Time Spy and got a value of 9232 , a bit lower than the review, but not that much: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/gigabyte_aorus_gtx_1080_ti_xtreme_gaming_review,30.html When I play with MSI Afterburner, the GPU usage is always around 95-100%... I don't think that this should be the case? My Monitor is connected to the graphics card and not the motherboard. Do you have an idea what my problem could be? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!
Are you using SSAA? If so, that's probably the issue as it's extremely gpu intensive. Switch to FXAA or SMAA and it should be fine.
Thank you for your answers. I made some tests. VSYNC was always off. After 10 min in the game with SSAA x4: CPU 45°C 70% GPU 63°C 97% 1911MHz MEM 8990MB 5616MHz RAM 9704MB Around 60 FPS If I change to FXAA: CPU 51°C 66% GPU 67°C 97% 1936MHz MEM 8820MB 5616MHz RAM 9722MB Around 117 FPS All values are jumping around +-5... so I think beside the fps the values look the same. I mean it's no problem for me to turn off the SSAAx4. But I still think the values are too low (GURU3D had 179). The game is from 2016, how can this system not handle the highest settings on 1080p? I think there has to be something which slows it down?
Guru3D benchmarks weren’t run with the highest hair settings if I remember rightly and that has a large impact on frame rates. With how demanding the environments are in that game you’re not going to average 179fps at max settings all the time even with a 1080Ti.
Hmm ok, than I will try to test some other games in the future to look if its ok But in general, the GPU Usage of 95-100% is normal than? Thank you!
Hmm ok, so the very high preset and not customize everything to max? And your GPU is running at the same Usage %? Do you have any special settings? In Geforce Control Panel,...? Stupid question, what fps you get in the Soviet Installation region?
soviet installation is a worst case scene with more vegetation+higher visual range. https://www.computerbase.de/2016-01/rise-of-the-tomb-raider-benchmarks/5/
