I just reinstalled old CM dirt and found out that turning on msaa4x puts my fps bellow 60 fps. Sometimes they even dip into 40's. Same thing happens if I choose high detail level. :3eyes: In other words, I get constant 60 fps (a must for a driving game, at least for me) only @2xmsaa and low :fuse:details.

As I remember I played this game @60fps@2xmsaa@high on my old 4850.

Grid for instance, stays at 60fps with everything maxed and 8xmsaa. Same goes for dirt2 (which is not nearly as much fun as the first dirt).

Using latest drivers (10.5). Same thing happens with 10.4. or 10.5. Rig details in my signature (Win 7 64 bit).

Has anyone experienced this? Thanx for any insight.

Yes I do have experienced this. But with GTX 285. All my other system spec remains the same.

Dirt part 1 played in slow motion. 15-23 FPS.

I even tried with lower resolutions like 1280*768 etc, but the game simply wont go above 20FPS. Dont know the cause.

    I'm on win7 64 bit.

Heard the same from others, Dirt ran like garbage no matter what.

UPDATE: it turns out that both 10.4 and 10.5 are f*?!# up in regard to dirt...after installing latest beta 8.74 all is smoooth at 60fps, everything maxed+4xmsaa.

I also tried changing the sound setting, installing new Oalinst...read on the forums that sometimes that causes extreme slowdowns...it is worthwhile to check that.

yup, but the weird thing was that although card switched to 3d mode, the activity/load never went beyond 60%. anyway, it seems that old (pre 10.4.) and latest driver remedies the problem.

just for the fun of it...i tried to drive dirt 1 after driving dirt 3 for a while...again...with new drivers...after a year...if i max out dirt 1 it will get choppy at 1280x1024, fps go down to 40s.
this is fu$%%$ unbelievable ..:bang:.such an old game and it will still not run at 60fps. it seems that a year of amd driver development made things worse.

hm could be AMD issue, it ran great on 250gts a while ago, 4xmsaa and rest maxed i even tweaked tree and object lod to render further, and 16xaf forced @ 1280x1024..

And i found out that the sound takes the biggest hit on cpu if you use onbaord sound (even all on lowest), i remember when i played it on p4 and 8800gts 320mb i could use 4xaa rest on ultra/high and hoover around 35fps. But once i upgraded to this xfi now it jumped to 40-45fps and 10x better sound eax5 and high dsp:nerd:.. On this quad now it ran like a dream ~65-85fps or so and that was still with 8800gts in it lol

So you are running Dirt 1 with Windows 7 64bit. I didn't know that it is possible to run Dirt 1 with W7. Since the store page of steam says that Dirt 1 doesn't support W7, I always run the game with Windows XP 32bit. With XP32bit Dirt 1 runs very smoothly with the highest settings at 1920x1080 in my rig (Core i7 980X, HD5870 Crossfire). I might try to run the game with W7 at some point.
