are there indicators that could tell me whats on it?

Unfortunately RivaTuner dose not support GF100 yet, otherwise I can analyse the datas of your GTX465.

Hey loneknives , the size(61.5kb) of the BIOS image dump from your GTX465 is just fine. That's a normal size of a standure VGA BIOS. Can you send me this bios to my emailbox? I cant open the link which you post. My email: mmx0317@yahoo.com.cn , thank you!

The version of the bios is not the point, the ASUS unlock tool which this thread mention about can do the unlocking work ,but not just this, it also can do the BLOCKING work! But the blocking option has been hided from end users. So all GTX465 BIOS could be unlocked or blocked, whatever the version is.

PS. Im curiously, who creat this unlock tool , the engineers from ASUS? I just have strange feeling, the creator is come from third party, bad guss? HOHO~

I would doubt that it's actually possible to "unlock" the retail GTX465 as that could cause liability issues for Asus. If Asus provides the utility, then they have to warranty the card if the end-user chooses to run the utility and the card bricks. If they provide the utility and refuse to warranty the card when it bricks, they open themselves up to lawsuits. From a legal stand-point, if they provide the utility to end-users they are showing approval for modifying the cards and as such must warranty them if the utility bricks them.

WOW , you're fast~ Got the BIOS file!

Unfortunatly, this BIOS has no software mask of the SM's, it means all disabled stream processors was blocked at hardware level. Your GTX465 is unlockable. Bad news..

This utility has several strict check-up steps, only few correct GTX465 can pass the gate. Most of the retail GTX465s will not allow to run this utility.

So, it doesn't matter what brand they're from, only select few will unlock? How can you tell, if they will, or won't unlock?(I'm sorry, if this has been answered before)

Try. No other way to know.

However, unlocking the memory can only be done if there are 10 physical memory chips on the board.

All the info you need is in the thread.

So wait, on 8-chip cards, it's possible to unlock SP's though?

From reading other articles on the subject, it appears SOME of the GTX265 have the extra SP's disabled in the bios....others have them physically/electronically disabled within the GPU itself.

It sounds like a marketing ploy to me. Like AMD undercutting Intel on price but making the chips overclock easy.

Why does ASUS sell these with an "unlock" utility when they could just unlock them their selves and resell them as 470? Probably because people will buy something they can unlock.

I found a very amusing card on newegg today... it's a Geforce GTS 250 with 2GB of vram. Same principle? Throw 2 gigs of vram on a crappy slow card and I bet they sell like hotcakes. :D

That's just my 0.02, it's nothing more than a marketing ploy to sell more cards.

can we flash a 470 bios on a 465 ? i mean using the bios from ENGTX470 on the ENGTX465 without having all ram

i wonder to take one for 240 € if i can increase the power of 25 % -> Graphics Processing Clusters
the 465 is absolutely not good to buy as is , it s very hot like the 480 and slower than 460 .

i do same from a week , looking at a big webshop , there is only the asus left in stock . i wonder if this card is something to avoid ?
