But I'm quite a "noob" when it comes to PC hardware, any help here would be appreciated. :)

So, I currently have a 9600GT and it's served me well over the past few years, but I'm wanting a bit more power. After looking around at some reviews the 5770 is affordable and powerful - just the kind of card that I'm after.

Now, I'm not sure whether or not it would work fine with my motherboard. As I said: I'm quite a noob when it comes to PC hardware, so don't flame me if it's a silly question. ;)

My motherboard can be found here: http://www.gigabyte.com.au/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2844&dl=1#ov

And the card that I'm interested in is here: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_962&products_id=14217

The full list of 5770s from PCCG can be found here (Do you recommend another over the MSI card?): http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=193_962

    Thanks in advance!
    Geralt.

I have an HiS Hd 5770. Its a great card. The MSI hawk is a beast and overclocks very well. Its a great upgrade from your 9600gt. As for you board. Its should work well. Im on a p35 board and yours is a p45. I have no issues at all.

Why 5770 if you can have the significantly more powerful 6850 for a few buck more?
And you have a 256 bit card.

    Thanks for the reply!

Hmm, thanks for the suggestion, I may just go a 6850. Which one do you recommend from PCCG (http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=193_1163)? And it would still work fine with my board?

I have a 256 bit card? I'm not sure what you mean by this. ;) As I said, I'm a noob.

    Thanks.

He is talking about the memory interface. Its not a major deal on newer cards as they use ggdr5 memory vs ggdr3 memory. Faster memory is always better. 256 vs 128 is only gonna hurt you in high res gaming. What size and res is your monitor. That factors into things. It wouldnt be a bad idea to get a 6850 at all. But if your not needing that much more power from a 5770 then its a trivial upgrade.

The 5770 is a 128 bit card and it becomes a bottleneck with higher resolutions and AA. 1680x1050 is affected by it.

I would recommend you a Sapphire 6850. Well i can just tell cause i have it myself, but it is not loud and i had not a single Problem with it.

Okay, thanks. I'll read some reviews on the 6850's and I'll be buying one next time I'm paid.

    Thanks for the help guys!

5770 is amazing .. value for your money .. but any x8xx is better than x7xx cards
