    ok well at the moment i got my chip upto 4.5 which seems to be running solid as well as good temps , so id like to try hitting the big 5 and i was wondering if i could get some advice from the more experianced members here :)

    settings are

    Vcore = NORMAL
    DVID = +.060
    QPI/VTT = 1.150
    PLL = 1.815
    DRAM Voltage = 1.5
    Timing = MFG Rated Spec 9:9:9:24 :2T

    Temps are 27C min 60C tops under load i presume i should be safe at the moment to go higheR ?

    my cooler is Arctic Freezer 13 PRO CO Intel

    your temps are fine for now but not sure your cooler could hold 5 ghz at reasonable temps, try setting Vcore to 1.4v, and then stress test with prime95 while you monitor your temps. But i think your temps might go over 75..

    90% of all 2500k are able to run at 5ghz, the problem lies is how much voltage you need to get there. Sandy bridge 2500k and 2600k becomes very hard overclocking after 4.6-4.8ghz after that you require a trememdous voltage increase for every 100mhz. I recommend to run it at 4.6-4.8 with temp around 70-75c max since you are on air. you won't see a different anyway.

    Yes.

    Your cooler is not really right for it. 5GHZ would not be stable on that, at least not for long.

    The D-14 at that same config is like 10c cooler...which most just hit the limit on for running 5GHZ.

    thanks for the feedback guys , very much appreciated ... ill try upping volt a little and trying 4.6 4.8 if temps stay down i can push on otherwise ill stick to what i got. Again appreciate the replys thanks :)

    The actual reaching of a magic 5ghz number is not worth the hassle and risk compared to a perfectly stable and "safe"? 4,5-4,8 IMO.
    In my experience with the 2600K when going over the 4,8 Ghz the problematics in terms of tweaking rise exponentially compared to lower frequencies.

    your qpi voltage is kind of high you should try that on auto 1.050
    try lowering your cpu pll to around 1.75v
    these tweaks will lower temps a tad.
    5ghz might be pushing that cooler a little but it wouldnt hurt to try. hyperthreading adds 7-10c per core stress testing on a 2600k so a 2500k may be doable at 5ghz on your cooler. keep an eye on the temps, I have been known to stress test into the 80`s on my cooler

    For 4.5ghz i would need offset of +.02. Your +.06 is high. Lower PLL to 1.65, VTT to 1.025-1.05. For 5ghz you will need an upwards of +.130 or more offset.

    got a simple clock of 4.2 with my i5 2500K. I'm mainly a gamer not a clocker. Will knocking 5ghz give me any gaming performance increase??

    You'll only see the difference in benchmarks or CPU intensive tasks like encoding or something, but if your chip can do it, why not?

    it does for me. not all games tough. but only go for 5ghz 24/7 if you have a good chip that doesn't require much voltage. like something under 1.4v ...and proper cooling of course.
