Looking For The BEST 27" Gaming Monitor

After doing some research, it seems that this baby was the best I found so far:

Would the above screen be the one to go for or is there any better?

I have no budget, but I need a 27" or 26" screen, no bigger and no smaller.

If I were you I'd go for a 1920x1200 resolution, 1080p seems pretty low for a screen that size for gaming. Then again they seem to be pretty limited when it comes to finding such screens:

2712HDS has too much input lag. Average 18ms. Max 25ms.

Their quickest 1080 monitor, the 2210HDS, is only 22 inch.
However it has 0 ms input lag.

Iiyama actually has the quickest monitors I've found, but not in the sizes I want.



There are a couple decent samsung LCDs.
This one has pretty low input lag, but also is small in size :

I'm hoping that the upcoming ph276h from asus will have input lag no larger than 8ms max (with a low average, like 1 or 2 ms).

It's hard to find a good gaming LCD.
I've had to stick with a CRT.

It is VERY hard to find a monitor as there is no perfect one...

Hmm, any other good Iiyama monitors?

For me, the main points in a monitor is that is must be large, no more than 4 or 5ms and at least 400cd/m brightness and the higher the contrast, the better.

However, as I just said, no montor I have seen have all these...

CRT's have most, only their tiny, are not 16:9 format and flicker...

With lcd's, they are big, clear and bright but either have input lag or limited to just 60hz...

But so far, the Iiyama is the closest I've seen yet with regards to size, etc...

Any other Iiyama monitors or hp/dell/lg or samsung?

2210 HDS is the largest and highest rez iiyama with zero input lag.

You'll be hard pressed to find anything quicker from any maker.
Even the 120hz lcds have more input lag than this 60hz display.

Pixel response is 2ms. Which is awesome, since most monitors use overdrive to get their response time down, which tends to increase input lag.

This monitor is all positives, no negatives. Great stuff.

Small size is the only big drawback.

I am on the same hunt! I have had a 26" Vizio LEDTV, a 25" HP and still not happy. I have returned those screens and about to pick up a 27" AOC TV or the new 27" Viewsonic VX2739WM that just came out.
If you dont have a budget, the I would try to start looking at smaller 120hz Tv's.

 

That's 100% true, the viewing angles are bad if your not infront of the screen...

That's also true, but it's hard to go from a 27" screen to a smaller screen...

Major problem with a smaller screen is the resolution. I need a screen with minimum 1920X1080 pr 1900X1200, otherwise I will not be making use of my cpu/gpu...

Any suggestions for a smaller screen with high resolution?

 

Are there not any lcd tv's with high hz? I have recently seen panasonic and sony screens advertised on the tv and some are 200hz and I have seen one that's 600hz and @1920X1080...

Could there be ANY good LCD tv's that I could use?

A few years ago I used to use a samsung 40" 1080p tv which was fast, responsive, no ghosting and had great strong colours, especially the blacks but it was TOO TOO large and I had to get a smaller screen ...

 

Those 600Hz TV's are plasmas Not lcd.

 

Ok, so what 120hz or 200hz or 600hz plasma's or lcd's are good for gaming?

Something preferably 37" or less...

 

Plasma 600hz is subfield drive, NOT refresh rate.
They are using "hz" to advertise with, but comparing unrelated things.



TV "120hz" (as it is marketed) is not 120hz INPUT.
It's 60hz INPUT, interpolated to 120hz output (essentially motion smoothing - adding fake extra output frames in between input frames).
Due to interpolation processing, you have extra high input lag.
On the order of 100ms. Fastest 120hz screens (LG LH40 series) will be around 45ms.
There is no TV (lcd/plasma) available today that takes 120hz input.

The fastest 60hz TVs (LG LH30 series) have around 30ms input lag.





Current available models of 120hz INPUT monitors (with 120hz output), as of today (June 16 2010), have too much input lag to really be 'gaming'.

As you can see, the input lag is way more than the Iiyama's 0ms.

The Iiyama at 60hz will show frames at 16ms intervals.
The 120hz LCDs will show frames at 8ms intervals.

Now add the average input lag to the 120hz monitors, and you're at 8+13 = 21ms.

Effectively, you will see an image 21-16=5ms LATER on the 120hz monitors, than the iiyama 60hz monitor.




And a CRT will do 120hz+, with 0 input lag, great colors, and superior conrast.

I was able to play around with the Viewsonic VX2739WM 27" today at work. It didnt impress There wasnt really anything great about this monitor, it was mostly typical. No impressive vibrant colors, no deep blacks, no 2560 x 1600 resolution (I wish haha). Just...average.

The hunt continues.


*but as usual, I would have to take the monitor home to really test it out for gaming. Its well within my price range of about $359 at Frys Electronics though.
