So I'm trying to finish up my first build in almost 2 decades, and currently have the build here in mind. Cliffs notes it's a 3950x/Aorus Master/3090. After doing some research, it seems like Ryzen's performance is pretty sensitive to the speed/timing of the RAM its paired with, so I'd like to get something decent. I was thinking Crucial Ballistix DDR4-3600. The timings, 16-18-18-36 seem pretty solid, and while the G.Skill Trident Z Neo has slightly faster timings (16-16-16-36), it's quite a bit more expensive and I also hate the RGB aesthetic. Anyways, if anyone has any thoughts on the RAM I've selected, or any other suggestions I'd be much appreciative. Thanks! -bbsmitz
I like my G Skill Flare X kit / 2x8 3200 14-14-14 -28-42 CL1 @ 1.35 v.... but I have it tuned to 3466 15-15-15-35-54 CL1 @ 1.35 v it runs great and I got a nice low latency 62.3ns I think I got a nice set. I'm running it on a Asus CH VII x470 and a Ryzen 2700x.
@bbsmitz , you do know that the new generation of CPUs that succeed the 3000 series will be announced, literally, TOMORROW ? (or may be even Today, depending where you live) It's absolutely the worst possible time to buy a 3950X.
Yeah, when I put this build together first pass a few months ago I had in the back of my head that the new processors would be releasing soon, guess I wasn't paying attention to how soon. Thanks for the heads up, I'll probably wait for the new set to drop before going ahead. Thanks; I hadn't considered grabbing a 3200 kit and then overclocking it.
