A relative of mine is looking for a laptop, but I am not really sure what to suggest. He will be using it for some gaming use, but will also use it for study/work purposes, so I suppose something with mid level graphics should suffice. Something which can, say, allow him to run some recent games at at least medium to low graphics, maybe medium high. Maybe Skyrim, or Batman Arkham City, Battlefield 3, Sleeping Dogs etc. etc.. He may perhaps want to emulate some games, most likely DragonBall Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 on the PS2. It should also hopefully be not too expensive, and should last for quite a few years(Not gaming wise, but standard usage.) Any laptops you guys can suggest which fits these criteria?
Forgot to mention, maximum said relative is willing to pay is 888$. Anything good I can get him within that range? For example, is this good/trustworthy?: http://www.lenovo.com/products/us/laptop/ideapad/y-series/y580/
That's a great lappy. Both performance and quality wise. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a trackball. Oh well, kids these tend to use trackpads anyway.
better get the FullHD version, but you won't be able to find it for 888$. You do have other options that include FullHD screen: http://www.gaminglaptopsjunky.com/gaming-laptops-under-1000/ 1. Wait for a new coupon for the HP dv6t-7000 select edition 2. Go for the NP6165

None of these are fit for gaming. OP, go with that Lenovo TP Y580 you posted (GTX 660M version). It's the absolute best for that price. Unless you can find something similar with a discount. A huge discount...
