Hey folks, been a while since i've posted here but recently I've been getting the upgrade itch and also have started noticing my SLI GTX 980 Ti's are beginning to get a little long in the tooth (although still capable) depending on SLI support per game.

I have an Acer X34 Pred monitor (3440x1440) so I'll be looking to stick with Nvidia for the Gsync but I'm not sure on the real performance I'd get moving from 2x GTX 980 TI to say a 2070/2080 (price permitting) as i can't really judge SLI performance from the charts as it's typically a single GTX 980 Ti used. The thought of not dealing with SLI again and a low power bill is tempting me to look into this.

Thoughts, should i invest or just sweat it out until the next series/refresh?

    980ti = 1080, give or take.

So, you should be looking at either 2080 or 2080ti.

Sometimes, switching from SLI to a single card can be a godsend, low temps, a lot less noise, consistent performance.

If you can afford the 2080ti, go for it. If not, look at the 2080.

A 980 Ti is not equal to a 1080. It is equal to a 1070.

I have the same monitor, and I actually made a post asking for advice.

In your case, when SLI works well 2x980ti should run quite fast, and anything below 1080ti/2080 should feel like a downgrade. When using just one card you'll probably appreciate the upgrade much better.

At the end the question is how much are you willing to spend.

2070 seems to be a little stronger that 1080, which is very nice, but another league that 80/ti

For what I've been told 2080 can handle the rez. with some compromises

2080ti is the best you can get. If it can handle 4K, it will surely handle UWQHD

I'm going for the 2080ti, but money is a big factor to consider.

    stock vs stock = yes.

    Moderate OC 1.42GHZ = 1070ti, max OC 1.5GHz ~ 1080.

Thanks for the comments so far guys, I guess really I'm looking at a 2080 or 2080 ti but the price gouging from Nvidia is holding me back. If they slash the ti down to 2080 prices I'd snap one up right away but since that's not going to happen I might just hang on a bit longer.

You can expect a price drop on the 2080 and 2080 Ti when the Radeon VII comes out, but it won't be much. I think we will see only 100 bucks taken off each.

I had 980ti sli then a 1080ti it was slightly slower than 980ti when sli was working well. I would say min upgrade should be RTX2080 which i have now imagine sli working well in every game that is what you would have only true upgrade would be RTX2080ti

Well looks like 2080Ti but screw Nv's current pricing model. Will fight on until next gen or a severe price cut is done. Hopefully with the not so good financial press of Nvidia recently they might be inclined to release something affordable

I would stay pat for awhile, you have a good system, a year from now you will be in a great position, i went from a 290x cfx to a new $629.00 1080Ti , that was a big jump, not so much for you, i would wait.
