Looking for a good active RAM cooling solution for my 512x2 Corsair ValueSelect. I have it running at 2-3-2-6 1T 195mHz @ 2.8v. It crashed last night @ 2.7v, so I thought I need some extra cooling on it.

if this thing is actually under 20dBa like it claims, it looks better than the one i have that i stopped using because it was too noisy..

never mind that just read this review
    http://www.bigbruin.com/reviews05/neoncrab/index.php?file=2
that is not a great product..
the one i have has 2 fans also, and they spin loud and fast and move some air.. but loud..
these get the best temps in reviews i read

As long as you have good airflow in your case then you should never need active cooling for you ram unless you are sending 3v+ to them. If it crashed at only 2.7v then I doubt it crashed because of heat unless your case doesn't have good airflow and is just hot as hell lol.

Yeah, ram cooling does approximately nothing unless you are really volting the hell out of them (>3 volts), and unless you have chips known to respond well to that (specifically Winbond BH5/CH5 and UTT) it won't really accomplish much. Not every overclocking limitation is because of heat, there is just some inherent limit even if cooling isn't an issue.

Its most likely crashing because your trying push the timings too tight, heck even Corsair XMS C2 isnt supposed to handle CL2 on an AMD. 2.5-3-3-6 is about the best you should hope for at 1T

Those tight timings are a waste @ 195mhz. My corsair value DDR400 was able to run 2.5-3-3-7 @ 220mhz, and I guarantee it would outperform yours with tighter timings.
Moral of the story, higher mhz > tighter timings..

Uh... it can, but it can be the other way around too. If it makes a difference to your CPU OC then I'd always favor that personally.

True I have mine C2 running at 225 1:1 but it will only do it at CL3 stable I "could" get it down to 2.5 but then of course games like BF2 will lock up:rolleyes:

I wanted to overclock it instead of of lowering the timings but for some reason I can't up my FSB higher than 239 without having cold-boot issues.

You drop the HTT multiplier to 4x or 3x?

    Yea.

    FSB 239 x 9
    HTT 4x
    Mem Index 166mHz
1.425v (Even if I raise the voltage further, still had cold-boot issues.)

just a little of topic but i was wondering about the new awesome fast memory on gpu's we all know most of it will run fine with no sinks on it but what about the new nvidea stuff people are overclocking to 1900mhz 950 true so how long untill the memory needs great cooling too?

Quite possibly never... As you said GDDR is leaps and bounds ahead of system ram and often needs no cooling at all. DDR-2 is even cooler than DDR-1 thanks to its lower voltage, so we may even head in the opposite direction.
