The MSI 290X provides good cooling while maintaining "normal" noise levels :) Same goes for the Powercolor one. Cards are really close when comparing stats, just grab a few beers, good Technical Death Metal album and enjoy Hilbert's reviews ;) Welcome to Guru3D buddy :D

My bad, aftermarket is a (almost) no go, unless you go the H80i way... But that leaves one critical thing out of the quotation, VRM's. IF you mod the card/cooler make sure you've got some bad ass heat-sink with enough airflow for the VRM's ;) Hope that helps!

Yes, the VRMs will suffer if you're not very careful. Get good thermal pads like the Fujipoly Ultra (Extreme?), Alpenfoen VRM heatsinks, and ensure good airflow. Keeping the heatsinks fastened might require adhesive thermal pads in which case you might want such a solution instead or in addition to the Fujipoly pads (dab adhesive on the corners).

Just.... Make sure the adhesive is not permanent.

Gelid sells a VRM enhancement kit specifically for the 290/x that attaches with the stock mounting holes, no adhesive needed..

The Accelero Extreme IV blows air onto the VRM's to help cool them.

That Accelero Hybrid II is more likely to fry VRM's since they're entirely passively cooled from the backside of the card. If there's any real concern for VRM temps, you do NOT want the Accelero Hybrid II....

again, even with the accleero, you can use the gelid enhancement kit.

The Kragen G10 plus the gelid kit is probably the best cooling, but it also required a CLC (most any will do), so you need space for a radiator.

For Air, the Gelid Icy, or the Regular Acellero and the gelid vrm kit are the way to go.
