I dont know why anyone bothers with these low spec NAS's.

always expensive and only do storage, limited utilities.

you should all get what I have and wait until the offers arrive(quite often cash back offers),

HP Proliant Micro Server. 4 x 3-1/2 bays and 1 5-1/4 bay for optical drive

USB everywhere, esata, internal USB and MOST importantly low profile PCI-E express slot.

    so what does this mean.

It's basically a whole PC that I installed Windows 7 on.

dual core amd at 2.2ghz and 2gb ram (upgradable)
I put an ATI 6450 in which gives me sound and 1080p capable video play back via HDMI.
Blu Ray drive in the ODD slot and 4 x 2gb drives.

I serve files around my home via the 1gb ethernet and run XBMC , an nntp client , etc, it's powerful enough for some games including MAME and N64 , Megadrive, SNES etc which I play via Xbox 360 pad and Wireless receiver.

the server after cashback cost me £110 which inculded a 250gb drive.
another £30 or so for the Ati 6450 and then 2tb drives and its a FAR cheaper and MUCH more useful NAS than all these "new" ones popping up hugely over priced.

    This isn't a NAS
    It's a multi-bay enclosure

If you want a proper NAS you should probably be looking for something with NAS in the title
