List of Windows driver update programs.

Here is a list of programs that I refer to when I am asked for assistance in locating a driver for a Windows computer installation. I thought I would share this list with the Guru3D community.

    Ma Config - Free - Ad-supported

    http://www.ma-config.com/en

    http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/Ma-Config.shtml

    SlimDrivers - Free - Requires registration - Ad-supported

    http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/SlimDrivers.shtml

    http://www.softpedia.com/reviews/windows/SlimDrivers-Review-183447.shtml

    Device Doctor - Free - Ad-supported

    http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Device-Doctor.shtml

DriverIdentifier - Requires purchase to Download drivers but not to scan for new drivers.

    http://www.driveridentifier.com/

    http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/DriverIdentifier.shtml

Driver Booster: The new program on the block.

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/iobit_driver_booster.html

    http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/IObit-Driver-Booster.shtml

    http://www.iobit.com/driver-booster.php

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you don't have any drivers installed for a device, the above programs may not be able to identify a driver for it. You can use the following information / program to locate the manufacture of the device. With this information in hand, your should be able to locate a driver for the device.

How to find drivers for Unknown Devices - Information

    http://www.instantfundas.com/2008/06/how-to-find-drivers-for-unknown-devices.html

    Unknown Device Identifier - Free

    http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/Unknown-Device-Identifier.shtml

Be aware that sometimes a program will tell you that you have the latest driver while in reality, you do not. You may just have to check around or use another program to verify the results.

Another new program on the block.

    Tweaking.com - Hardware Identify - Free

Make sure you update the Driver Database by clicking on the arrow at the bottom middle of the program window. It's not that obvious . A new window will open and inform you if a program or database update is available. Click on the appropriate button to update the program or the database.

    Some more to add.

DUMo (Drivers Update Monitor) - Free - Download the Lite version for no added software.

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/dumo_(drivers_update_monitor).html

    &

Uniblue DriverScanner - Demo - Very good information about what version of each driver is installed and what version is available.

    http://www.uniblue.com/software/driverscanner/

    http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/DriverScanner.shtml

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/uniblue_driverscanner_2013.html

    Limitations:

The demo version only allows you to scan for missing and outdated drivers.
    The schedule feature is disabled.

    &

    DriverMax - Demo

    http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/DriverMax.shtml

    Snappy Driver Installer

This program allows the use of the same driver packs that " DriverPack-Solution-Professional " program uses above.

The difference is this program can scan your PC and then only download the driver packs that are applicable to the components in your PC.

So instead of downloading the " DriverPack-Solution-Professional " which is now in the size of 9.4 GB, you will probably be in the neighborhood of 3.5 GB depending what hardware you have in your PC.
