I just checked and mine RTX 4070 Ti was set to lined-based instead of MSI. RTX 3000 was set to MSI by default, so why it was changed in RTX 4000?
Yeah. No idea why Nvidia did this, perhaps @ManuelG can shed some light on it. It appears to be the same for all RTX 4xxx cards. Feel free to change it to MSI Mode, it will work fine (reportedly better for some, too). I haven't had any problems with my RTX 4090 set to MSI Mode.
In most cases users should not see difference. But still this is strange because MSI mode is better. Maybe NV devs know something in secret...
For what its worth, I get a lot of freezes with both HAGS and msi mode enabled with my (otherwise) trusty 1080ti. I upgraded mobo and cpu and its still the same behaviour. I actually still get freezes (picture freezes, need to alt tab to recover) in W10 if I enable HAGS, and keep msi mode disabled, but its very rare compared to msi mode on. On W11 (HAGS on by default) ive yet to experience it, unless I enable msi mode. Even then its much more unlikely to happen compared to W10. One can only guess what causes this. My guess is somekind of GPU scheduler framepacing issue, since running older games with 500+ framerates is much more likely to trigger the behaviour. So its especially HAGS in combination with msi mode which causes me this issue. Without HAGS Ive had no problems having msi mode on for my GPU.
