hmm, sounds like fun
Yep, there's already a lot of talk on it.
A lot of us have been fighting for it for a long time against it.
Oh, that's the ban list? That was from March this year, very old.
There's new news on it today and the report of the tests are live and how they are wanting to proceed.
All I know, is they want to waste an insane amount of money on something, that should be up to the parents, and it only blocks a handful of websites anyway. (About 1000 from the tests)
atleast i know im gona be fine, iiNet released a statement saying they arnt adopting the blacklist, think of it as since so many sites getting blocked its gonna reduce traffic and make interwebz faster, wop
Yay I don't have to worry ! Sorry to all the aussies though.
I didn't know Australia blocked websites.
Jesus guys, call us when you join the 20th Century, much less the 21st.
Do you understand what Mandatory means? =)
Do you have a link to the statement? As far as I know they are one of the first to trial it to see if it would be feasible.
It said something about Danish blacklists, but that can't be true, can it?
Because I was on wikileaks during school a few months ago, and I saw the "Danish blacklist". I clicked on several of the links, and yes, they were bloody disgusting (pedophilia, for one thing), but none of it was blocked...
Also, if they ever implemented such a filter, I'd probably buy a Relakks subscription. That is, a high-speed VPN.
Who knows what they might filter...
Rather than individual governments banning access to certain websites, why don't all the governments work together to take down the really bad ones, but i suppose that would mean all having to agree.
The last few years have been an eye opener for me concerning Australia, no idea what its like to live there, but looking in from the outside, it doesn't look like a democracy anymore.
Its craziness. Fight them Aussie brothers! And sisters too.
I actually wanted to live in Australia once.
Notice, that was past tense.
I still wouldn't live anywhere else actually.
It's only been very recently, and only a few things I disagree with.
This Internet Filter is one, the other is getting bloody R18+ classifications in games. The rest is fine and I don't care.
We need to piss off Anna Bligh and Rudd though.
I can't f*cking believe this crap! This is so infuriating...honestly it's driving me nuts that we can't do anything to stop this.
Wikipedia entries?? I thought this was about blocking illegal content such as child porn. What a load of crap. I knew it would lead to this.
it starts of nobly. That pieces that differ from their ideas are blocked. Its loss of freedom at its core.
I wanted to move there with some of my friends but that has certainly changed. Lots of my friends who live their since leaving university have told me about the race issues that exist in Australia.
Wouldn't exactly say we have that many race issues. Depends what town you're in I suppose.
yea this is totally crappy, ironically they only recently opened discussion about allowing 18+ classification in games and at the same time they've announced they are going to go ahead with the filter
i agree with finch i love living here but unfortunately for a few d*ckheads just wrecks it for all
Your an adult so what's the problem? (That doesn't change the internet filter and possible game censorship, though).
The whole problem being that the game won't be sold in Australia.
Doesn't stop people from getting it mind you, people just pirate it then.
