I REALLY want to put a SSD in my t61, but I've heard that the Sata2 controller is capped at 1.5gb/s (despite it being advertised at 3gb/s). Apparently Lenovo is flat-out denying this issue, and refuses to release a bios update to fix it (unlike Apple, Dell, and HP, who ALL have released bios updates for similar models that had the same issue).

I understand that SSD's were barely breaking into the market when the t61 was released (let alone being developped), but why can't Lenovo just sack up and release a bloody bios update?

Does anyone know of any work-arounds or hacked bios releases? or can some one at least point me in the right direction?

I love my t61, and it would run like a champ with an SSD running at full capacity. Even if the 1.5gb/s cap is never removed, would it still be a worthwhile upgrade to get an SSD? what are the advantages?

Edit -- here is a 10+ page thread from notebookreview.com which discusses the issue:
