The classic 1999 shooter is back! Kingpin: Reloaded, the remastered, enhanced version of the crime-themed first-person shooter developed and published by 3D Realms and Interplay, recruits new gang members on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC later this year. In a stylized noir art deco gangland that never was, the Kingpin rules above all else with a bloody fist. When his lieutenant Nikki Blanco leaves a no-name Thug battered and broken, the upstart criminal rises from a puddle of blood, lead pipe in hand and revenge in mind. Lol... really... I mean really was anyone actually asking for this. I mean as a game to chose to be remastered was anyone specifically asking for Kingpin and if what they showed in that video is a representation of the 'quality' was anyone asking for something that looks this poor? Obviously I never played the game when it first came out so the rose tinted glasses certainly ain't going to work on me.
All I remember of the game is something about silencers stop working after a few shots.... or maybe that was a different game... can't quite remember.
I actually did. Loved the game back then running it on a Voodoo 2 lol. I hope they remaster it correctly though, and dont keep the old graphics with higher resolution on 60 fps, that won't cut it.
That looks horrific, I purposely avoid retro, I don't want to see again games I played in the 00s, or 90s or 80s, I prefer them to remain hazey happy memories
totally agree with you, I cringed when I saw the video. game was amazing when it came out, but I couldn't play with those graphics today, not even for free. good thing that memories come wrapped in a thin mist
Huh, this came out of the left field... If they were to polish up the gameplay (the original had bullet spongy enemies thanks to an unbalanced weapon damage output), this could be worth getting and replaying.
Very fond memories of this game. I have the original on CD. Loved upgrading the pistol to a magnum. The gore was quite brutal, from what I recall.
We're not really talking much about the tech behind the remaster just yet. But, it will feature updated shadows, global illumination, ambient occlusion... and some other bits. Weapons models "may" get updated, depends on feedback and how much work it will take. The goal is to get this remaster out this year. Textures will not be touched, at least that's the plan right now. The team had been updating, making "HD" textures, but after looking at them in game... they don't work. It just makes it look like a bad looking modern game, instead of an updated older game. There's a distinct charm to Kingpin's visual look and feel, and the goal is to maintain that and enhance it. Big changes will be on the gameplay side. A complete rebalance to gameplay. Enemy toughness, weapon effectiveness. Adding in a proper inventory screen, quest log... really polishing the game to levels it should've been at when it was originally released. Only now with proper widescreen, 4K, and tons of other updates. But, the team is very open to feedback. 3DRealms wants this to be the version of the game the fans want, so... until release, nothing is set in stone.
Everything you've just said are awesome news, especially the bits about gameplay re-balancing! That is the major caveat of Kingpin now (and was back then). I really hope 3d Realms can pull this off well, because if so, then I'll gladly buy this game again.
