I installed this last night on my two laptops and subsequently began having consistent crashes in Firefox 4 beta 4 on the laptop running the ATI Catalyst 10.8 drivers. I had not modified Firefox to enable Direct2D. My other laptop with Intel 4 series graphics does not exhibit this issue. Both laptops are mirror images of each other in terms of software installed. The only difference is the core hardware/drivers. As Firefox 4 is still in beta, I am unsure of whether or not the problem is ATI, Microsoft, or Mozilla. After it crashed about 10 times I installed the latest nightly build and had no more problems though Mozilla was extremely laggy at times (still no Direct2D enabled). Another build has since been released and I updated to this, performance so far seems to be better, however I also just downgraded to the Catalyst 10.5 release.

Just thought I'd share my experience in case anyone else runs into similar issues.

Speaking of points.... I gained 0.1 on the Windows Experience Index for Desktop Performance for Windows Aero. Nothing else changed.

As Chris Farley used to say.....

    Wellllllll, la de FRICKIN' DA!

I measured no difference. .2 FPS, so, effectively no difference with Metro 2033 completely maxed at 1920x1200.

There was no mention in percentage of any improvement in any particular game. However, since some are noticing some improvements is good news. If they said there was a 5% difference and you only noticed 0.X% difference that would be a different story.

I miss how dxdiag would show a list of the directx files and show the dates for them. they should of left that:nerd: everytime there was updates for it I would look to see what where updated. I think the last dx that showed was 8

@dsbig You can still do this by running the dxdiag from the run prompt on Windows Vista/7.

Will edit a bit when I test stuff out after a restart.

I have SP1 Beta already installed so this is included with it. I would say SP1 does seem to make Windows 7 a little more stable for performance wise.

I can't really think of ways how to make windows 7 more stable.

How can something perfectly stable become even more stable ?

I have Win 7 for like a year now and didn't had single crash over this time.

    Maybe i'm lucky ? :p

something really weird just happened, i downloaded the hotfix, made sure i got the x64 version, installed it and when i rebooted it had pretty much taken my whole desktop back to stock, lost all my icons, all my apps that start up with windows, all my documents and pictures..the wallpaper had reset to win7 standard....was really weird. All my games and apps were installed but all the shortcuts n documents n savegames were all gone. Decided to do a system restore since i wasn't prepared to start over lol...
    WTH?

Windows 7 will sometimes login with a temporary profile upon installing updates that require a restart. Simply restarting again should log you back into your original profile.

The files involved are newer than what the OP listed.
Guess you took the list form the KB info page?
