I have the X1950XTX and am happy with it for the most part, but the 8800 gts sure seems to beat it up. I was thinking of sending this back and getting the nvidia and eating the 57$ restocking fee. Any opinions...
I don't think it's worth it yet. If you wait for DX10 to actually be here (with Crysis, Supreme commander and drivers that actually don't divide you FPS by 2 with FSAA) you should be able to get a (better) cheaper DX10 card. You should still get some money out of your card then. Unless you are FPS limited in your games (I know I'm not at 1680x1050) you should wait to upgrade.
Well, actually I always forget how pricy the XTX is... Well if you return it, you will pay 359+57=416. If you keep it, and assuming you can sell it half price on eBay you get $175 back. It's only worth it if you can buy something better than a 8800GTS for $240. I hope we get something better than a 8800GTS for $250 bucks by the end of the year. So your choice is to upgrade now and "get stuck" with a 8800GTS, or enjoy your very fast DX9 card until you spend about the same amount of money to get a better DX10. In my case, it's easier to decide because my card is cheaper than yours. In your case, I don't sure anymore honnestly. X1950XTX still go for >$330 on Ebay. Maybe you could try to sell yours on ebay for over 300 and then use the money to buy a 8800GTS?
