Alright, I'll take your bet on Tettamanazi, but not Okogie. I want to have all my Nigerian bases covered.

How much? *notes it all down*

And Battista is a good candidate, but Tettamanzi, although his languageskillz0rz aren't the best, worked closely together with JPII..

just because he worked cloely with him doesnt mean he has a better chance. I think the opposite, I think its gonna be someone that didn work close with him, but who still has similar views.

I mean who knows, but I hink the next pope will be a suprise.

    PS: No bets :D

Well, a Latin American certainly would be deserving, and making one the Pope would bring a smile to my face as well. I would think a Latin American Pope would be very conservative though unlike the African one. I do hope a person of color does get nominated though, that would send a tremendous statement that the Church is for everyone, and anyone can become what they desire.....as long as they are qualified of course. Token measures are quite bad.

yea, i agree. a latin american pope would be too conservative. though i'm kind of hoping with the next pope we'll go back to italians. pope john paul II was a great fluke but i think the popes should be italian for tradition's sake.

Actually, I'm not sure tahts a great idea.
Its not a tradition in the real long term, and I think they should look everywhere they ahve catholics for popes.

Why didnt the Vatican get a whole group of people from all ethnicities and locations and just keep on cross breeding them until you have one kid with every known race in his blood. That way if you want an Italian, Scottish, African, Iraqi or Nordic pope, BAM you've got one. And it's all wrapped up in a pretty little white gown.

I think that'll solve the ethnics issue at hand. Granted it will take the next few hundred years. But we'll all be boning in the name of God so I think its worth it.

anyone seeing the pope's funeral. it broke the record for the number of royalty and heads of states(presidents/prime ministers) ever in history to unite for any event.

Yeah it's quite amazing - i don't think there are any other events that would get Robert Mugabe and George Bush and the Iranian Prime minister to all be at the same event peacefully...

There is a chance the Ratzinger (sp?) guy will be the next pope, but he's very conservative so might not get elected. He's a very strong candidate though
