Been getting into my sim racing (mainly Assetto Corsa Competizione) and decided to build an aluminium rig that I designed in my head and from copying other designs (but for a fraction of the price). This was to replace my Playseat. I bought the aluminium from a local supplier, cut to my specifications.
I decided that I wanted to go full motion, but the prices were eye watering and WAY out of my price range (cheapest 3dof was about £2,500 and 4dof around £5,000). I heard about the SFX100 which was a DIY motion rig, so decided to go this route. This requires a LOT of work, including 3d printing (which I had no idea of what to do). I bought the Creality Ender 2 for about £95 and set about printing. The other pieces (steel tubing, profile, bearings etc) were off the shelf, but still required quite a lot of work and fabrication to make the actuators. The red pieces I printed, each taking around 10 hours to print.
They are controlled by motors, with screw threads that make the solid tubes go up and down, and they are controlled by a control unit (one for each). After many hours of work and many meters of PLA for printing, a few stickers and bit of wiring I have produced this... And I must say ITS AMAZING.
Looks sick mate! GG! And it makes me kinda sad, that I had to put my (non motion) rig into storage, since the apartment we are living now is just too small for it ..
