It could be overclocked up to 1300mhz gpu core and 1900mhz memory core.
I don't care about the 6gb vram or the fact some of you will say the gtx 680 is the best card out there. 7970 vs 680, their performance depends on th game being benchmarked, some games the 7970 exceeds at and others the 680 does.
I am still waiting to see reviews and benchmarks of the 7990 and its crossfire performance and any microstutter problem but I guess the Sapphire Toxic 6GB has the best cooler and best overclocking capabilities for a single gpu card.
I got a S27A950D samsung and I got the Asus VE278Q but Im planning to get a second ve278q for triple monitor gaming at three x1920x1080 .
I might looked at future 7970 ghz edition cards.
So what is the best single gpu card out there now and in the next few months?

From what I'm researching a 7970 with a good clock is definately not
taking a back seat to the 680.

And thats with a clocked 680 either manually or with the I guess you would call
    it, Turbo mode.

Wouldn't surprize me that Nvidia knowing they had limited supplies of these
chips were using better binned chips to showcase the 680 against the 7970.

Who knows for sure, I don't, Just guessing, But we'll see once we can find
the rest of the 680's, Where ever they have them stashed.

    Later:)

I don't even think its out yet but maybe real soon I hope, It maybe our last hope being an amd fan since people seem to ignore the fact that the 7970 already beats the gtx 680 at half of the games in most benchmarks. 680 and the 7970 are about the same depending on which game they are used. Most people sound as if it like last gen where the gtx 580 had beaten 6970 by so much that the gtx 570 was the only thing the 6970 could even touch.

OC'ing the 7970 to max in AMD Overdrive, or to 1.2ghz through for example Afterburner with a slight voltage increase, stands up to the GTX 680 in a lot of games. It even exchanged blows with it, win here loss here.

Honestly if you want a new card now. Just get the HD 7970. Great card!

But man 6GB....makes me want to try to sell my 3 gigers and go for those when they release.

yeah I'm waiting for it to get released,
I am also waiting for the release of the 7990 so I could decide whether to get a second 7950, upgrade to toxic 7970 6gb and crossfire in the future or just get the 7990.

If you can wait for the 7990, and can afford one, then honestly I see no reason not to.

3GB of Vram should be enough.

This is true and I 100% agree with you as I overclocked my 7970 1210/1620 @ 1.2v. Great performance, BUT alot of people don't overclock and especially mess with the voltage (even though these cards oc great at stock voltage). A pre oc'd 7970, 680, or the new 670 are the way to go. I think the 670 is the real gem of this generation.

I feel that it would be a complete waste of money to get a 6gig 7970 considering their price and because there really is no use for all that VRAM. It's just an oc'd 7970 with a huge pricetag. By the time games are actually getting close to that mark the 7970 will be so obsolete that it will be an afterthought.

    You'd be better off replacing your 3 gig with a 7990 or a GTX690.
