I wounder, every IT company I used, even the freeware apps, all have an option to disable telemetry, they even ask if you want to join when you install the app.

Microsoft, AMD, Intel, VMware, steelseries, Nahimic (Audio driver for my laptop), everyone I know has an option to disable Telemetry, data collection except NVIDIA, they are forcing it and even come up with new hidden methods to collects data.

Is it even legal to collect data without the costumers' consent?

Can NVIDIA make it optional to collect data for its users?

    https://www.pcgamer.com/au/nvidias-telemetry-monitor-is-not-spying-on-you/

Link above explaining their privacy policy from 2016 when this first started becoming a concern.

Although it is not ideal that there is no option to disable it within the software (you can install stripped down drivers), nVidia claims they do not share the data with anyone (meaning it's not used for advertisement), and the data collected is anonymous.

Also it's complete fiction the companies you named above do not collect data. EVERYONE collects data, we are literally living in the age of BIG DATA right now.

Really? Do you think if a company spies on you they would tell you that? and the ETL, logs files are available to check, they can not spy on you

I don't care, the idea about collecting data without my consent is very irritating, and I don't like it.

Not to mention on slow PCs, it can take relatively big amount of the resources for the users.

EDIT: and it is always a potential security risk and vulnerabilities

It is optional, there is an option to disable that, they even will ask you at first if you want to join their program

nvidia telemetry only runs when GFE is installed and actively used.

telemetry is a requirement of the GFE platform.
just like telemetry is a requirement of the steam platform

Not true, the Telemetry plugins will be installed even if you don\t install GFE, and they will run inside the NVcontainer and collects DATA, false information.

    Installed=/=Active.

All of windows 10's telemetry is installed and nobody complains about that.

First of all it is active.

Second! Because it is optional, in Windows you can simply disable all data collection, all of them by changing options and adding registry data, in NVIDIA no such option, it is FORCED

You compare irrelevant things. Nvidia is an ant and Microsoft is a giant.

Even Microsoft will ask you upon installation if you want to collect data or not,

not to mention you can change it later

There is no option to turn off diagnostic data completely, only switch between "Required diagnostic data" and "Optional diagnostic data"

yes there is, using group policy, or adding a registry entry allowtelemetry=0 and stop the service connected users experiences, there are options

Only NVIDIA doesn't have option for that

These are not options, these are tweaks (not for everyone). Also it shows that MS has no intention to offer telemetry free.

That does not mean that MS is white and fluffy in terms of telemetry data.

Being network related any NV service can be disabled (prevented) to connect to internet or send data.
Also you can disable NV telemetry related service without harm to any apps. Only time you need them - when you launch NVCP. (Same level of "options" as you noted about Windows.)

Yes it is, when it gives you the option, it is an option.

NVIDIA doesn't give you the option, they are forced.

NVIDIA telemetry are embedded dll files run with the nvcontainer, there is no option to disable it

MS does not give you an option. Users just discovered one - hence MS does not want you to disable telemetry.

    I will repeat:
Being network related any NV service can be disabled (prevented) to connect to internet or send data.
Also you can disable NV telemetry related service without harm to any apps. Only time you need them - when you launch NVCP. (Same level of "options" as you noted about Windows.)

It is an option, as long there is an option, it is optional.

as far as I know every company except NVIDIA has the option.

Whether it is easy or hard to find is another discussion
