Hello, would someone kindly tell me if my PSU is enough? Ive got OCZ Fatal1ty 550w PSU : currently my PC specs are Phenom II x4 965 @ 3,42 ghz HD 4870 4gb ddr2 ram I would want to change my HD4870 to something better in like 1,5 - 2 months and I was thinking about gtx470 because in store in my city it has almost same price as HD6870 and from what I know gtx470 is much better than HD6870 and also has additional 280 vram (1280). Will it be too much for my PSU or should I just go for HD6870?. Please help me
A GTX 470 needs a 12V current rating of 38A, you have 37.5. It's tight but I think it will be ok since requirements are usually exaggerated to be on the safe side.
seems like you would be gambling. Even thought with to days prices i would probably take a GTX 470, in your situation i would recommend a 6870 instead.
hmmm. nvidia suggest a 38A +12v psu... yours has 37a... now whatever suggest means... I think it should still work. but I would be looking to upgrade sooner or later if I was you mate.
Damn , so maybe HD 6870 would be a better choice for me ... I dont know where are trusted benchmarks, Any good benchmark sites guys? I dont have cash to change my PSU but price is so close its a damn shame. Also im maybe more interested in MINIMUM framerate in benchmarks and not average :O. Are you happy with your HD6870 Eclap ?
I love it! I upgraded from a 4890. I was quite happy with it, but I'm getting better performance out of this 6870. Imagine getting around 55-70fps in BC2 with all maxed (no HBAO) and 2xAA with 4890. With 6870 I'm getting around 70-90fps with 4xAA (same settings otherwise). so even after upping the AA I still get more fps. for you, coming from a 4870, you'll see an even better performance improvement... This card playes everything maxed @ 1080p with 4xAA, no problem. I don't think you need more than 4xAA at 1080p. it's a great card and if the price is right, I would go for it mate. You can't go wrong. and it will definitely run fine with your psu.
Well, it really looks like a great card , also when Im looking at power consumption compared to gtx470. But the thing is I hate that they have same price. Do you know the best site for checking HD6870 vs GTX470? When i'm looking for benchmarks half of them look fake...
yea he's right, you have 2x +12V 25A rails, but combined makes them ~37A for example i have 4x +12V 20A rails, but combined its just 48A.
Damn, how about Antec NeoPower 550w? Ive just seen a test machine in a benchmark i7 920 @ 3 ghz GTX 470 Antec NeoPower 550w it has 3x 12V 18a each but I dont know combined... I couldnt find it. EDIT : well nevermind it has 42 combined.... omg its just pathetic , such small number difference and Im forced to buy HD6870 ;P
im not sure but i think its this one: NeoHE 550 ~42A this is the whole thread http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=205763
Imagine getting 60 fps with all maxed, HBAO on, 32xAA, vsync on, at 1920x1200 with a GTX470. Because that's what I get with mine in BC2.
Itll work fine.....I powerd a gtx 470 on a piece of **** no name brand 480 psu that came in a 30 dollar case for 2 weeks before getting around to replacing it and it worked fine. and that only had 28 amps. Your systems total power draw with the cpu and gpu at 100 percent load probably wouldnt even break 350 watts.
I think you should be fine... 38amps on the 12V rails means 456w... I seriously doubt your system will ever draw that insane amount of power, even if you have a monstruously overclocked cpu. I've set up a friend's pc with a gtx460 on an enermax psu rated at only 33A on the 12 volt rails (modular 425w version) with no issues, I seriously doubt you'll have any problem with your psu using a 470. I suppose that rating is placed to avoid cards to be mounted on cheapish 5y-old 350w supplies
jeez... you have a lot faster cpu and more ram to boost. but here's a Battlefield BC2 DX11 chart from the guru 3D review the 6870 outperforms the gtx470. yes, it's only by 2 fps but it still does. Meaning if I had my card in your rig, I'd be getting at least same performance. I'm off to try those settings right now btw
