He was 7 when it came out, haha. But yeah Deus Ex is an amazing game, I loved it. I wish it was remade with better graphics or something, though. That would be freakin' awesome!
You guys really should check that mod out. I heard it has THIRTY HOURS of gameplay..... THIRTY! That's staggering!
Deus Ex was a good game back in the day. It's no longer playable though... the graphics are so dated that the game will no longer be fun. It has been surpassed in essentially every way in the years since it came out. It's still a classic, but no I would say its not worth buying today in 2010.
I value the games depth of story and plotline detail, same for Morrowind. Graphics don't matter to me at all to be honest. If the game is good or the story really is great, the game can look N64 wise.
Deus Ex will probably never leave my top 10... Of course it's graphically dated but the gameplay is more "detailed" than almost anything today. It gives a lot of room to think how you can take down the opponents and there is a lot do discover if one chooses to explore. Plus it uses conspiracy theories as its base for the story very well.
No longer playable? Surprassed in essentially every way in years since it came out? Surely, you are trolling for kicks. If not, then please name me a single game that surprased Deus Ex in every way, because I would love to play it.
i replayed it a few months ago, yea the gfx are outdated but the gameplay the difficulty, the story hard to beat even today. outside stalker and maybe mass effect/2 one of the best fps rpg hybrids ever made and one of the first. also played the nameless mod awhile back, very good mod alot of inside jokes and easter eggs etc, but some nice levels. start off a bit slow but towards the middle it picks up decently, worth a play through for sure. cant top the original however. gameplay and story can trumph gfx any day of the week, especially when it is one of the best games ever made period.
I got the original Deus Ex for free & after playing it, it felt like they should have been paying me to play the sh!tty game.
A few that come to mind are Mass Effect, Bioshock, and Stalker. Deus Ex was one of the first shooter/RPG hybrids and it was a solid game, but it can't compete with modern budgets and hardware. I don't even like Bioshock, but it's clearly superior to the original Deus Ex... I mean come on. I'm sure if you had played it back in 2000 your opinion would have been different. But if I had never played the game and received a free copy today, there's no way I'd be able to play it. It just looks too crappy and there would be no way to become immersed in it.
If you ate your favorite food everyday, believing it was superior to any other, wouldn't you get sick of it after a while? Variety is the spice.
