Is 7700 a big step down from 7700X ?

I have some AM5 stuff on the way and due to availability I could only get the 7700 here.

Doing some research all I can find really is "this CPU gets X% less in X game" etc nothing too conclusive

What I would really like to know is what are the 'general' disadvantages of the non X 7700, vs the X variant?

Any info appreciated. Anything I have overlooked in not waiting for the 'X' ?

I only game and mostly BF (2042 and others)

The non X will be slower in clocks but use less power and overall you’d be hard pressed to see or feel a difference vs the X model.

almost the same, but power way down

max boost is only 100mhz difference (5.3 vs 5.4ghz), so if you enable pbo, you'll basically get very similar performance to the X version for free , you might even be able to raise the clock limit 100mhz to get almost exactly the same performance, main difference between the X and non X besides the power limit and the max clock, is the silicon quality, the non x will probably require more voltage(and therefore consume more power) to hit the same frequencies.

Thanks very much for this guys, appreciated.

This is definitely something to think about as I do enjoy my 'silicon quality'

Less voltage, less heat, more fiddling.

Above ALL else though, is BF2042 - that's a CPU HAMMER.

None of these cpus are worthwhile upgrade from your 5800x3d. Just wait for 7800x3d if you want to change platforms.

Ram is holding them back on that chart. Very dependent on the ram speeds where v-cache variant is not.

I don't disagree at all but if I change now I can send my current stuff back, might as well make the switch now and iron things out down the line. I literally have sold my other stuff and bought a new AM4 Mobo, 32GB DDR4, 5800X3D.

MIGHT AS WELL just switch now. It's costing almost EXACLTY the same give or take.

not as much as some cherry picked scenarios would have you believe.

    true.

but don't forget the cooling is a major variable for PBO, so slap an aio on the non-x and forget about it
