Interesting I backup only photos to the cloud everything else done with disc and USB drive I wonder how long it takes apple to acknowledge there is a problem.
Good news! I have two devices at my office that I can't deploy because of this stupid activation lock and the inability to unlock it due to a past employee having used their personal account. MANY people are in this situation, with devices that are literally worthless and unlockable. Maybe I can now salvage these devices and get them unlocked so they can be used again.
It's a big issue now with corporations. If you show proof of purchase from the company Apple will unlock if for you though.
Not according to my attempts.. Unless they changed their policy. When I approached them they pretty much told me to go pound salt. Plus you can't always expect people to be able to show proof of purchase when you work in an office with hundreds of devices.
Maybe it's how you approach them You most certainly can have proof of purchase, bank statements and credit card statements, heck most business won't even let you purchase things without a requisition form that's signed. And in Australia that needs to be kept for like 7 years for the Auditors. Maybe Apple are nicer to Education institutes.
So hold on... a locked off iPhone couldn't be directly wiped/reset by the user and had to be done by Apple until now?
You can wipe the phone and reset it, but when you go to set it up it will ask that you activate with the previously used Apple account. If you don't have it and you can no longer reach the person who originally set it up and get their credentials to authenticate, then the device is essentially bricked since it won't take you past that point of activation. Finch mentioned that Apple, if provided with PoP, would be able to activate for you, but I hadn't had any luck with this in my couple cases.
