Interesting yet strange 3D anomaly

Currently I am using the 10.4a preview driver.

I noticed that if I run a game at some point during the day and close the game as normal (no rebooting) and later load up another, different game I can briefly see the very last frame of the previous game flash before the new 3D application loads. It seems like some kind of delayed memory flush or something.

I don't know that it's causing a performance issue (FPS seems fine), but I was merely interested to know if this is an event that occurs for anyone else.

 

Confirmed happens to me to.

Namely when crossfire is enabled.

 

Have seen that when overclocking the memory too high.

Sounds like a couple frames still inside the frame buffer.

Similar with me...i do seen those last frame of the games when open up a new games or any 3d apps like 3Dbenchmark...maybe something to do with crossfireX. but my opinion, its not an issue .

 

This won't be an issue at all. It's sounds like a residual frame buffer image getting flushed before it's overwritten by the new game. I would like to know if the same effect happens when you use a Direct X game then an OpenGL game however since the drivers may manage the framebuffer differently.

 

Yeah, I see the last image from the game I was playing when I load a new one too for a split second and it has only appeared since I got my second HD 5870 for CrossFireX. I've never considered it an issue though, just a quirk of the way CrossFireX works.

 

Happens here too. Its like the last screen is stuck in memory until you start a new 3d app (game).

Happens to me too with 2x HD5870s.
Not a huge issue but kinda weird.

with a single card it doesn't happen.

 

Oh, I suppose that makes perfect sense, being a Crossfire quirk that is. It's probably due to the second card shutting down after the app is closed and therefore it doesn't have a proper chance to purge itself until the next time in fires up.
