It's good to see people are still putting effort in to making a CPU for running Crysis as intended

Why should we care? Who has and uses his G74000T overclocked to whatever value?

the mobo that was used costs more than an entire G7400T based system.
i was going to use one of these Pentium Golds for a digital audio deck but then i remembered what a drag transcoding audio files was on a two core...
still this is a great buy for kids and old folks.

People really crap all over 2cores but for a lot of people that use it for fb/browsing and office it is perfect !

There is no modern use for a 2 core system. Full stop.

    at 60eur the only alternative is a used ivy/haswell 4c/4t i5
    I bet this 2/4 adl-s runs faster

So it will not browse do office and do zoom calls etc just fine? What more do you need for these tasks ? Why for example my father where he just reading the news and light YouTube need to pay more than 70 euros for a cpu+gpu ?

it's more important to have a modern,hw accelerated decoder
a fast, modern 2c/4t with a ssd and enough ram will do just fine.I'd prefer that over an older 4c/4t

Well he will get my 1600 for free soon-ish :p , but yes if he had to pay a dual core alder lake with the absolute cheapest mb and 8gb of ddr4 value ram is what i would have brought for him. Atm he seems happy with the a4300 apu .

I'd fear how horrible 0.1% and 1% lows would be with just 2 cores/4 threads, I'd fear how it'd be even with 4 cores.

I think these days the reasonable minimum is 6c/12t to be safe-ish when it comes to avoiding frame time issues.

Even for just $64 USD, even if the mobo options weren't a dumpster fire, I wouldn't buy a 2 core CPU under any circumstance.

who says this is for gaming
Jesus, people writing about 0.1% lows on an office computer
you know this isn't even gonna be paired with a dedicated GPU in most cases ?

And you think one in an office PC is going to be OC'd to 5.8GHz? This thread obviously isn't about practical use. A 10 year old CPU with any SSD works "fine" for an office PC.

Hahahaha i can die happy if out of the blue my 70 years old father overclocks his pc ! Mind you i deep-freeze his pc before that every 2 weeks i had to fix it , literally littered with shovelwhare and extra bars and extension browser hijackers too he would always claim he did nothing! After i deepfrrezed his pc all this stopped ! By the way my initial comment about the cpu i do not expect anyone to oc it for serious gaming and yeah it will be stuttering city ! Would be interesting just for fan to see how this cpu fairs against a 3570k etc.

I like that our OC enthusiasts help find the silicone limits but it would have been way more useful to have it run 24/7 with CPU bound tests to see the impacts such as emulators, CPU bound games, and mins average + mins 0.1% vs 4-6 cores at least, as others have correctly pointed out.
