Intel is giving AMD a month of head start. How polite.

So nice of Intel. Trying to steal the scene from AMD's product release. Now we just need nVidia to plan the unveiling of RTX4000's on the same date...

Damn, and I just upgraded to 12700K, Z690 mobo, and DDR5. I hope the socket will be the same. so that Z690 will be supported for 4+ years should I need to upgrade later on to a faster CPU. But I only game at 4K, so it should not matter. GPU is more important

Your board will only support 2 gens. Alder and Raptor lake.
If you want support for 4 years that bad, then you should go with AMD.

lol. With Intel youre buying " as is", not saying its always a bad deal, sometimes its great.but 12700 is a great CPU you wont need more.

It wasnt a best time to build a new system so close to new generation from both intel and amd.

That would depend on the price. If it was a good deal, then it's perfectly fine since there's nothing wrong about 12700K. It ought to remain a highly capable CPU for a number of years. However, if there were no discounts or anything, it could be considered a bit regretful. In my opinion graphics cards are much worse buys very close to the next gen because the advantages of the new gen tend to be higher. I'm only talking about gaming and random use of other software here, though, but I reckon anyone buying a 12700K wasn't looking for a multithread monster for serious CPU compute anyway.

Dont get me wrong 12700k is a great chip and if it was on sale even better but i thought you could have 13700k for very similar price if waiting few months was an option. I noticed as everyone hyping for zen4 cpus the zen3 like 5700x and 5900x ware dropping in price. There is some really nice deals to be had but we all want newest and greatest, right? :)

Personally, i wouldn`t mind buying a system with a 12700K, if i could find one for less than 300€.

It`s a great CPU and i think it`s going to hold on very well for the foreseeable future.

The difference between 12700k and 13700k is rumored to be 10% in singlecore load.
The 13700k is faster if you can use the extra E-cores, but they are not going to be used in gaming, especially not with 8 P- cores already.
The difference between 12700k and 13700k is rumored to be 50 Watts more on the 13700k, depending heavily on what motherboard limits are used.

Look up reviews, it does not really get any better then a 12700k for 4k gaming.
Clock it to 12900k stock speeds if needed and forget about the 13 series.

I bought a 5800x on sale and gained 5 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p high, no ray trace. (From Ryzen 1700x to 5800x)
Apex legends gave the highest boost, 200 to 250 FPS jump and then I turned on V-sync and locked it to 165hz screen, and the difference disappeared completely.

Just enjoy your new very fast system brother! I will be very surprised if it will be even worth it to update to 13700 really . Your CPU will serve you for years to come.

You'll be fine but beyond 13th gen, you'll need a new mobo.
