So fast tracking Coffee Lake by 6 months eh, that can only go down a treat can't it. I mean it's not like X299 was a total mess and none of Intel's current line are worth buying to get a fire under the Intel PR team to force more early releases...

They really got rattled by AMD didn't they :D

Finally, my lowly 4core 6700k was in need for small bump.

    Or TR. :D

Yeah, full-on panic mode, LOL. In all my years, I've never seen Intel rattled like this. At this rate, we'll have the 9th gen by October, and the 10th gen by Christmas :p

Not that it matters at this point, at least with me. They lost me as a customer earlier this year, and have done nothing to win me back.

Two desktop microarchitectures in the same year. On top of that, they require a new motherboard to support Coffee (+milk) Lake. Three if you count the HEDT X299

I jumped on the AMD train from Haswell. I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon. Especially with Zen2 and Zen3 being able to use the AM4 socket and X370 chipset for a few years ahead.

Intel need a mainstream 6 core processor that runs with a base clock of 4ghz.

I'm sure the i5 8xxxk will do that, costing more than the R7 1700 does and doing less work.

same here. went from i7 4790k to ryzen 7 1700 and in no way do i think its a sidegrade or whatever it is. its perfect for gaming and adobe premiere.

now... if only the ddr4 prices would drop. i want more and faster memory!

For any foreseeable future, Intel won't get a penny from me.

They lost me as a potential customer when they told Coffee Lake needs a whole new mobo/chipset.

Same same sameeeee. It'd have to be some insane performance advantage per dollar for me to buy an Intel CPU again. And that's coming from someone who relies extremely heavily on single core performance.

    I don't see an i5 costing more than $250. R7 1700 is $330.

The year i finally decided to replace my Q9550 is the year Intel decides to release 3 new CPU lines in the same year... I have no luck :\

Is it my time to upgrade yet?

Last upgrade was 2013 - too soon?

Seriously that video is a must watch.
It certainly explains why the CPU market stagnated so much and why AMD was absent from the performance market for so long.
That video can only make you angry.

I'm thinking to pull the trigger and go Ryzen but I still want to see what Coffee Lake will offer.
I'm pretty sure they will offer more performance than Ryzen that's for sure but from the other side AM4 offers more future proofing and is more consumer friendly. Intel will render Z370 obsolete in just few months again.

So paper launch in the 21st, or real in store launch?
A 8700k would be nice if it is a high clocker (5ghz)

Paper launch. The real launch is hinted to be close to holidays later this year. So it's some way off.

I think it might be 4.2-4.5ghz since it will be a 6 core cpu this time around, might be able to get 5ghz with an overclock however

I'm hoping intel has learned and will solder these cpus this time around, the heat these chips might bring are worrying...
