    So basically every card?

At launch the Fury X was $650 - a little over a year later it was selling for $350-400. AMD must be so greedy to charge that insane $650 number initially, said no one ever.

Average PC user can use as many cores as the CPU has when encoding, compiling, rendering, etc. Has been able for more than a decade. When consoles got 8 cores, do you think console games still stuck to 4 cores, huh? No, they didn't. Many PC games stick to few cores because Intel told the world 4 cores is the max for a regular home PC. Just like those old geezers in the middle of the last century told it's enough to have one computer per institution/business enterprise and nobody needs one at home. Fortunately nobody told Intel that or only a few of us would ever touch a PC in our lives.

Imagine if Nvidia could make x86 CPUs...with their R&D and budget, we'd get something amazing 40% faster every 2 years instead of this 2-5% crap we have with Intel.

It's amazing to think that last year around this time, Nvidia was worth around 10 billion and are now approaching 80 billion. Pretty soon they'll surpass Intel.

The average user isn't rendering, compiling, etc so how exactly is that an arguement?

    Average PC user browses web.

Even average gamer doesn't do any of the above.

There is no magic. Intel has some of the best (if not the best) CPU designers in the world, and the best Fabs in the world. There are also some problems that can't be solved no matter how much money you throw at them.

Also, always keep in mind: Current Market Valuation =! Money at hand.

Not that NVIDIA has any problem with any of that.

Maybe you are right statistically. It still doesn't change the fact that because our mothers don't need more than 4 cores in their PC's CPU, Intel thinks nobody does.

You act like intel doesn't have other options.

Haswell-e 5820K can be found for 300 USD new, which is pretty affordable for a couple years now.

Hell you can get 10 cores for 389 off of ebay so plenty of options there.

Besides, huge core count won't be 'affordable' until it's mainstream.
It will be a few more years before that kicks off.
